does anybody else eat dannon light & fit yogurt regularly?
if so, have your stores begun stocking NEW dannon light & fits?
i was at the store today and saw that most of my favorite flavors were gone and replaced with new dannon light & fits with a "new great taste," but instead of 60 calories, they were 80.
does anyone know what's going on? are they going to replace the 60 calorie cartons with the new 80 calorie ones? has your store done it yet..?
I've only just started eating Dannon Light & Fits, so I'm not really qualified to comment on trends, but for what it's worth, my local grocery store (Giant in Silver Spring, Maryland) stocks the stuff that's 60 calories and not labeled "new great taste". If that changes, I'll let you know.
Yes - I sent a complaint via their website and received a form email back that they took all comments into consideration (for what that is worth!). I'll probably switch to a cheaper store brand now, since it's about the same calorie-wise!
NO, they didn't "reanalyze" the calorie count, THEY PUMPED ADDED SUGAR INTO THE YOGURT. I am soooooooo pissed!!! This was my favorite breakfast, and the cups always said, "NO ADDED SUGAR" - well guess where your extra 20 calories are coming from? THE EXTRA 4G OF SUGAR THEY DUMPED IN YOUR TINY 6oz YOGURT. It's disgusting. I hate Dannon right now. The yogurt has a disgusting taste now. Something must've happened with their partnership with Splenda - the Splenda logo is no longer on the cup. So I'm assuming it's no longer in the yogurt either.
I just wrote to Dannon to complain at http://dannon.com/Application/Feedback/Feedba ckForm.aspx

I regularly eat Dannon Light & Fit Nonfat Vanilla-- the kind that comes in a large tub. It supposedly has 80 calories per 8 oz. Has that changed, too? Or have they just changed the individual packs?
80 calories for 8oz makes sense for the old recipe: 1oz = 10 calories. I rarely buy the tubs, myself, so check in your supermarket to see if the tubs start saying "Great New Taste!" If they change the tubs as well, that'll be more than 20 extra calories for you if you eat 8oz portions... I think closer to 30 calories :(
Huh, that's interesting... I just checked their web site, and I don't see any indication of this change. Maybe they haven't gotten around to it yet.
I don't eat the stuff, it's vile, but I used to and I think I remember them being smaller than the 8oz cups.
Whats the big deal with 20 extra calories? That amount is completely nominal when it comes to the grand scheme of a daily diet. An 80 calorie snack that can fill you up for awhile, give you a good amount of calcium and protein, plus be fat-free is a good snack for you. If they had raised the calories to 150 or something, that would bother me. But 60 to 80? Not a big deal. Anyways, the 6 oz ones that I buy at my local deli still say 60 cals, and don't say new and improved taste or anything like that. Maybe they just haven't switched over yet.
Yes, the small cups are 6oz, always have been. But phalange1188 was asking about the large tubs, which have an 8oz serving size. With the new recipe, it's 20 extra calories for the 6oz cups (60cals now 80cals) and approx 30 extra calories for an 8oz serving from the tub (80cals now 110cals). 20 calories might not be a big deal to some people, but 20 calories is equivalent to eating an apricot or a plum. For me, every lost snack counts :) Plus it's extra calories in sugar. I don't know about some people, but my body treats processed sugar like a fat factory. So thanks for the level-headed outlook or whatever, but an unnecessary extra 20 calories everyday is not a plus for me.
I myself was slightly disappointed at this, but I did try the new kind. They didn't "pump added sugar" into it, they enhanced the yogurt. It is thicker and creamier than the previous kind. It's not as if they just added sugar and put it back, it was an attempt to make their yogurt better. It may be 20 extra calories, but the idea is that the yogurt is now more satisfying than before. Both the other one and the new one are 6oz.
I did like the 60 calorie cups, though. =/
Never saw it in a tub size though. I think a cup is the perfect serving size.
Sorry, but whoever said they didn't put more sugar in it is mistaken. I'm looking at an old cup and a new cup right in front of me. The old cup had 7g of sugar, the new cup has 11g. The reason why it tastes creamier to you is because it has more modified corn starch and fructose. It's not hard to read the label, guys.
If the yogurt is now thicker and creamier as a result of the few extra calories and a tiny bit of extra sugar, then I have no problem with it. If the yogurt actually is better, its a small sacrifice for a still very healthy food.
whoa, 17 replies.
more sugar? that sucks. the yogurt tasted great already; i don't know why they would even do that :|
there are so many other yogurts out there with 80 calories, and the 60 calories thing was kind of their strong point. i bet they won't sell as well now.
how about Dannon Carb Control yogurt? It is low in carbs and has a nice portion of protein
Amount Per Serving Calories 60 % Daily Value* Total Fat 3.0 g Total Carbohydrates 3.0 g
Sugars 2.0 g
Protein 5.0 g
is it still 6oz?
