Dark Chocolate Almonds? Or Anything Else to Help a Dieting Chocoholic?

Quote  |  Reply

As a chocolate addict, I'm trying to find something that will satisfy my addiction...er...cravings while eating healthy. I love dark chocolate almonds. I know almonds are supposed to have good fat. One serving of dark chocolate almonds (all natural, not carmelized, and dipped in dark chocolate), is around 270 cals and 16 g fat. How much of that is good fat? Is it an ok snack? It's high in calories, but are the fat grams good fat grams? And if not, does anyone have any alternative ideas for chocolate addicts? Thanks.

I fit dark chocolate into my calorie allotment all the time. It makes me happy so why not! Dark chocolate has antioxidants and good stuff for you, there is no need to deprive yourself of everything you love, just enjoy in moderation!

Remember, this is a lifestyle change! You can stil indulge in things you enjoy while maintaining a healthy lifestyle!

semi-sweet chocolate bits helped me out a lot when i was craving a little chocolate

Me too!!!    I get Ghiradelli Semi Sweet baking chips.   Just let 3 to 4 of them melt in your mouth one at a time, should kill your cravings for a while for 15-20 calories.

Of course you have to have will power to not eat the whole bag.

Not that I'm guilty of that or anything, really Embarassed.

How about Fudgesicles? Not necasarrly the healthiest, but have a glass of milk after it or something Lol. The orignial kind is only 60/70 calories for one pop! But then again, I hope you have the will-power to eat just one... unlike mm maybe me... Lol Embarassed

Thanks everyone. I've come quite a ways. I'm just looking to lose that last little bit and tone up nicely, and I know when you get to that stage, fat intake and the like is very important. So, keep the suggestions coming people! And good luck to all of you fellow chocolatiers!

Have you ever tried Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds? They're mostly almonds aside from a dusting of cocoa powder, and a serving is 170 cal.

all i can say is sunsweet plumsweets! fricken DELICIOUS. they're like raisinettes in a way... just dried plums coated in dark chocolate. plums AND dark chocolate are high in antioxidants... so they're healthy and they satisfy a craving. only 120 calories for 14 of em! buy them!

I seem to eat chocolate all the time and still lose weight :P If you fit it in and it works for you, it's fine. If the rest of you're diet is clean and healthy you shouldn't have to worry about the fat content too much. Good luck :)

Hershey's unsweetened dark baking cocoa + lowfat/nonfat plain yogurt + Splenda

Add *lots* of cocoa....It's delicious!!

Dark choclate covered coffee beans are incredible :D

I like making 1 pack instant oats (plain) and leaving to cool for 5 mins- then top with sugar free chocolate pudding and fat free reddiwhip. Around 170 cals for a pretty big snack!

I eat 1 oz. of dry roasted cocoa almonds just about every day, it is a very healthy snack.  It also helps with my cocolate cravings.

I make oatmeal with milk, chocolate powder, and sweetner.....it's actually really really good and hits the spot when I am craving something with chocolate!

that sounds good!

I don't eat almonds (eww) but if you took an equivalent number of non-chocolate covered almonds and checked out the fat content of those you should be able to do the math on what fat is from the chocolate vs almonds?

I say fit a few into your day though.

I eat chocolate. Not always the "best" kind either. But its doable like everyone says - and even better if you PLAN for it rather than destroying deficits by giving into the cravings (.... which I 'never' do.... riiiiight....Embarassed)

My fav when its planned in my day: Dark Chocolate & Oranage LIndt squares. MMmmmm! I nibble and let it melt away slowly!

There`s a lot of good fat, I personally think it`s a great healthy snack, but you should try and see how it fits into your day. Try logging in a sample menu into CC and check: Can you stay within your calorie requirements for the day or do you have to give up anything else you love in order to squeeze it in? In the latter case, is the tradeoff worth it? Is the ratio of macronutrients (carbs/protein/fat) where you want it to be?

If you`ve 'passed' the planning stage, eat the sample menu for the day, see if you feel satisfied with the overall amount and types of food, and if your chocolate craving has been taken care of. It might be a good idea to do it for a couple days or more to get a better idea of how it`s working for you.

Dark chocolate is better than milk chocolate and a lot better than white chocolate.  Personally I tend to snack on 70% cacoa chocolate as it tends to remove the craving with only around a 20gram consumption which is great.

I eat chocolate most days but I only eat around 100 calories worth due to the great nature of dark chocolate and that completely satisfied my cravings.  Also small amounts of dark chocolate are supposed to be good as it contains antioxidants.

My mom is addicted to chocolate, and to curve her cravings she gets the sugar free dove dark chocolates. I think 5 of them is 190 calories or something, but they are really yummy!

Dark chocolate almonds sounds like they would be a great snack.  Dark chocolate is the healthiest chocolate, and almonds have tons of fat that is good for you!

Another thing that you should try that I ABSOLUTELY love are Kellogg's Dark Chocolate Almond Fiber Plus bars.  They taste SENSATIONAL -- just like a candy bar, and they have 130 calories and 35% of your DV of fiber, as well as some other nutricious stuff.  I have one every day and just stocked up my kitchen with some more today.  =)

chocolate pudding is delicious! the fat free kind is 80 calories, and you can dip anything in it. It may not be the healthiest, but I find it to satiate my daily chocolate fix.
