Dark chocolate

What is the best brand or bar of very dark chocolate you've had so far?  I want to buy a few, and I'm one of those types who loves very dark chocolate, and am interested in going beyond the 85% Lindt ones I've been having so far, but am willing to try the lesser ones around 70% if they have good fruit/coffe/mint mix-ins.

If you go into most organic or health food stores, they usually have an awesome selection of chocolates to choose from -- many of them come in small, tasting square size.  You should check it out.

Ghirardelli 85% is one of the best I've tasted -- and I'm not a huge fan of the 85%

Like I said in another thread, the Cacao Reserve by Hershey's is pretty darn good -- the one with the cacao nibs is no longer allowed in the house.

Trader Joe's also has a great selection of dark chocolates -- haven't tried them all

Ghirardelli 72% is good. The best I have had is Perugina bittersweet 60%

Last night I ate an entire bar of Rapunzel dark organic chocolate, but I can't recommend it...too brittle, chocolate taste a little weird. Didn't stop me of course.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who will still eat the chocolate even if they're not quite sure they like it -- why let it go to waste???

I don't know the % in Dove Dark Chocolate but,  man I love that stuff! Tongue out I saw a dove dark chocolate brownie recipe from there site OMG! It sounds sooo good! I was thinking about take the Barefoot Contessa Brownie Recipe and switching out semi sweet for Dove bitter sweet.

BTW- Do any of you make your chocolate candies?  I've made kind of a candy called oreo tuffles before but, I was thinking about taking up making real chocolate candy making. If you know much about the subject which books and supplier would you suggest.  The only sites I get candy making supply info from now is www.kitchenkrafts.com ; but, I'm sure they aren't the best deal on it.

thanks for letting pick your brain!Laughing

amy, i'm with you on the dove dark chocolates! i get the bag of miniatures and have a couple each day. it seems to keep the raging chocolate beast at bay.

Rogers of Victoria, BC  dark chocolate chipotle.  Yes, as in chili.  yummers. It's hot and sweet and spicy. It's also about $4 a bar! But the great thing is: it has cinnamon which helps your body deal with its sugar, and it is dark chocolate, which has MUFAs. And Mono unsaturated fatty acids help our body break down the denser fats such as the fat that accumulates around our organs and is so stressful to the heart.

I find that having 2 squares of dark chocolate after lunch keeps my chocoholicness under control. I look forward to it, and I don't feel deprived.  You do have to work it into your calorie count, but it's only about 50 calories! Sweeeeeeeeeeet.

depending on how much you want to spend... valrhona dark chocolate bars are the most amazing thing in the world. Then can cost upwards of $9 for a 4oz bar though, but trust me, this is once instance where the quality matches the price.

Lindt, Godiva (my all time favorite)  have already been mentioned and I have to second, third and fourth it...  Also like someone else said about the chocolate in the nature section of your grocery store or natures market is excellent.   To be honest I can't think of the name of the chocolate bar, but you can't miss it if your in the natures section, part of the proceeds go towards wild life so you have pictures of Gaurillas, Zebras, Wolves  etc... on these chocolate bars that are about the size of a hershey's bar (another one of my favs.).

Also, someone mentioned making chocolate candie.    An easy and deliciouse recipe is you get your favorite chocolate (Godive, Lindt etc...)  melt the chocolate in a double boiler, then stir in a variety of chopped nuts (peanuts, walnuts, pecans, almonds, pistachios etc) and mix well.   Drop teaspoon bits onto cookie sheet covered with wax paper and refrigerate.   If you like Caramel, you could get those caramel pieces (That come in a bag in your baking section and is shaped like hershy kisses) and place one in the center of some or all of the pieces of candy before refridgerating for something different.

I forget to mention that you will want to let the chocolate set a bit to firm before dropping onto pan.   Deliciouse

There's a Lindt mousse-filled dark chocolate bar that is absolutely amazing. I'm also a huge fan of the raspberry-filled Godiva bars.

My recent addiction is by Chocolove - 55% Dark Chocolate with orange peel.  Delicious!  I found it at a health food store.  They have large and small bars.  The amazing thing is that when I put in the nutrition label info, it got a score of B.  So I manage my calories to allow for 1/3 of a bar when I'm going through chocolate withdrawal.

I love, love almost any chocolate with 70 percent or over.  I'll have to try the ghirradeli 85 percent.

where can i get this bars @?

i love Ghirradeli chocolate! it is sooo good. even though im not supposed to have it, i still do every once in a while(chocolate of any kind.)
