Dark Chocolate Suggestions

Quote  |  Reply

I really want to try adding a "treat" of dark chocolate to my calorie intake several times per week, but I'm completely at a loss as to what kind/brand is the best.  I recently bought hershey's dark chocolate squares (60% cocoa, they come in a little bag and are all individually wrapped--4 squares have 180 calories), and while they are okay, I wouldn't say they are great.  Does anyone else have suggestions?  If possible, I prefer individually wrapped options (deters over-indulging!) and close to 50 calories or less per serving.  Thanks guys!

I like Lindt Excellence in 70 or 80% Cocoa. In one square (10 g) there's about 50 calories, but it's sold in packages with 10 squares I believe. They're also sold in two square packs, I see them at the Esso all the time.

Dove chocolate squares come in little 4 packs and they are good! I wish they would list the amount of cocoa in the squares though.

 those....

are...

the ....

BEST

....i've gotten my tastebuds up to 85% cocoa..mmmmm....here in Toronto they sell 'em now in 35g portions (190 cals)

My suggestion: Cocoa Camino. It's SO good!

I'm not sure where you live but if you have a Cost Plus World Market anywhere near by go there.  They have the most amazing selection of imported foods, including some of the best dark chocolate i've ever had.  Lot's of brands, per centages and other options to chose from.  yummy.

The best chocolate I've ever had is Valrhonna, but I think you can only get it in bars - don't get it unless you can trust to stop yourself at just one square portion.

Hershey's is okay, but I've really been enjoying my Ghiradelli dark chocolate squares (individually wrapped).  Dove makes a great dark chocolate square, and an even better dark chocolate covered caramel.

I've also tried Seeds of Change Dominican dark, which was very good.

Ohhh yes, that's my favourite too!  It's also fair trade and organic, so you can feel good about buying it.

Individually wrapped Ghirardelli squares are really yummy - plain dark, dark with mint, raspberry, caramel, etc. Fabulous - but I don't have any on hand to check calories....

Generally, the darker the chocolate (higher cocoa percentage) the fewer the calories, but you have to like the dark chocolate cocoa taste (less sweet). I just had two squares of Dagoba organic 87% cocoa. VERY satisfying.

i see alot of people suggesting higher than 60%, may i ask, why you didnt like the 60%? if you didnt like the 60% cause of bitterness/not sweet enough, your DEFINITELY not going to like the 60+

I can't say I disliked them because they weren't sweet enough/too bitter.  They just seemed waxier than I expected.  I'm not opposed to upping the percentage, if the piece of chocolate is worth it ;)

i see... well i cant give you any suggestions because i cant stand anything higher than 60% well, may i could stand 70%, never tried it. i tried lindt 85% &i personally couldnt stand it.

Lindt Excellence Selection -- multipack of mini squares.  You get 70%, 85%, orange, and mint.  7 squares = 190 cals -- they are all individually wrapped.

\ You get 70%,

is 70% good? or is really bitter like 85%?

70% is not as bitter as 85% but is still a bittersweet.  I happen to enjoy 70% the most, although 85% has its place

I love the lindt 99% bars, but I tend to be different like that!

i really like 60%- do you think id like the 70%?
60% to 70% isn't too big of a leap so you might like it. Try a small, good-quality piece!

is lindt good?

higher percentage cocoa the best...

and oh yes lindt is good

and why do i sound like a woman?????

and dont buy multi packs,  buy one square/bar etc.

if you go for certain chocolate brands, i.e. thin bars but wide, there is the psychological aspect of eating more but for the same kcalorie intake

the problem is, if you'r elooking for a chocolate replacement, you'll be at a loss because you know what flavour you're lookin for and dark chocolate isnt it

i dunno about you, but personally for me? that's just one step back to eating chocolate.. then the slippery slope down hill

either way i dunno what your state  of weight is or who you are

but for me i say put it aside and find something else to satitiate that sweet tooth
