Dark vs. Milk chocolate great debate
I eat dark chocolate most of the time.
But there are days when the only thing that will do it for me, is good old milk chocolate!! Not cheap stuff (although if I'm desperate it will do) but Belgian or german milk chocolate. I have to BE in the mood for dark chocolate, but milk chocolate is always appealing...
What about you? Which do you prefer, and why?
Im always surprised when peole go dark out of preference. Ive even had some of the best like Godiva but its always got that bite. Dont get me wrong - as a dieter, I can make heatlh concessions :D but in honesty - not even close.
dark choc is still good, especially cherry ripe, mint, coffee or with orange - or coconut! ok, I'll stop now before I drool all down my front haha
However, I still prefer fine milk chocolate. So good...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE dark chocolate. I even have a bag of cacao nibs that I munch on from time to time. There is just something about the bitter, rich smooth flavor. *drool* It was a very acquired taste for me, but it's my favorite now! Don't get me wrong, I haven't met a chocolate that I didn't like!
BTW, I was watching The Human Body, and the pleasure spikes in the brain were stronger with chocolate than with a kiss. :-)
I like both dark and milk choc. but I HATE white chocolate. Tastes weird to me.
I like it sweet but not super sweet like a Kit Kat.
The chocolate bars here in Japan are excellent - more refined and sophisticated taste than hersheys', which tastes gritty and fatty in comparison, and does not smell as nice.
I hate, hate, hate white chocolate. Hate it. I can't stomach milk chocolate at all either. I'm the total opposite of sun123, I can't imagine how people can honestly prefer milk or white chocolate. They (EDIT: milk and white chocolate, not milk and white chocolate eaters lol) make me sort of gag thinking about it.
I love dark chocolate though. Especially a fancy dark chocolate. At least 60% cacao solids for me. I prefer 70 to 72%. Above 80% gets a bit too much for me though. I definitely try to limit my chocolate intake though since it is not very nutritionally dense, though. But these weeks I'm running nearly 30 miles per week so I figure I can spare a few calories here and there. :D
I'm vegan ... so obviously dark, but I'll leave that out of it! It's weird ... if I'm overindulging in chocolate for emotional reasons (I'm a girl, OK!) then it's got got got to be dark, but if it's the occasional bar as a treat I do sometimes prefer the soy alternative to milk chocolate (full of saturated fat ...) just for the smoothness and sweetness and I probably enjoy that more than I enjoy eating dark, but I have to be in the mood. Mmm ... I don't want to make this decision lightly ... but I'd say dark is my favourite.
Green & Black's Maya Gold is my favourite, actually!

But seriously, who can resist the call of a good old Snicker's bar? Or a Kit Kat? Mmmmmm....
*raises hand* I can resisit snickers, kit kat, mars, hersheys, etc. If I wanted some chocolate and dark chocolate weren't available but those were, I just wouldn't have chocolate.
I don't like any milk chocolate, especially junkie candy bars. Dark chocolate, at least 70% cacao, is the only chocolate for me.
Here in England I have discovered one of the best chocolate companies, Montezuma's. They make heavenly chocolate!

I like that as well. The chilli-flavoured one is lovely. You'd think that it wouldn't work, but it always hits the spot.
I like the 72% dark chocolate. I think it has more of a satisfying taste then the milk chocolate. I can eat and eat milk chocolate and never fell satisfied. One square of dark chocolate is enough for me. I like to eat my dark chocolate cold, right out of the fridge.
I do like white chocolate truffles, on occasion.
Dark Chocolate Peanut M&M's....HEAVEN!!
I used to not like dark chocolate and only eat milk chocolate, now it's reversed. I prefer dark chocolate now because the more intense taste is a little more satisfying and quells my chocolate cravings a little better. I only eat milk chocolate if I just gotta have a milky way or snickers, there's no other chocolate around, or if it's in truffle form.
I've been getting Valrhona, Ghiradelli, and recently a Seeds of Change bar that claims to be Dominican Republic chocolate (it's pretty good). I've heard great things about Scharffen Berger chocolate, so next time I buy any, I'm trying that out.
I love love LOVE dark chocolate; I always have, way back before the "health effects" were published. Milk chocolate is enjoyable, don't get me wrong, but it's missing the "bite" which I love. I much prefer pure chocolate bars to bars with "stuff" in them, with the exception of the Cadbury Creme Eggs that come out near Easter which are just evil.
My current favourite is Cocoa Camino fair trade organic 71% cocoa. It's yummy and smooth :) The only problem is I have to plan my calories to eat the whole bar at one sitting :)
Does anyone else like to eat their chocolate with a hot drink like tea so it melts better in your mouth?

Oh, goodness, I forgot about the evilness that is the Cadbury Creme Egg. I loooooove those things - and a lot of stores, particularly Walgreen's, just has them sitting there by the register, calling to me as I'm trying to check out with my stuff....evil!
I'm going to have to look for Cocoa Camino (I would only eat it one square at a time though) - I love trying out new chocolate!
My dad works for Nestle R&D and was always bringing home POUNDS of really fine Swiss and French dark chocolate (he still brings it home, but now I live in another state which makes it much easier to refrain XD ). So I've got a taste for the high-quality stuff, whether its milk or dark. White chocolate is not chocolate by definition, and tastes really funny (although I like things that are white chocolate FLAVORED just fine).
American chocolate is not very good. For a long time I couldn't eat Hershey's at all because it smelled so foul. I've gotten to the point where I can eat it if there is something else in the candy -- like the cherry kisses or Almond Joys are fine.
As for milk or dark, that completely depends on my mood. I might go out and buy some good dark chocolate, as it's that time of the month and anything to make me feel more human....
