Date 1, who pays?
So, I've always let the man pay for dates, cuz i'm a woman and insist on being treated like a lady. However, today an acquaintance texted me asking me to take him to dinner. That's an interesting way of putting it. So am I expected to pay?
Money is tight right now and I have been laid off for a few weeks. I don't want to sound cheap and tell him this, but I also cannot afford a night out, especially since last weekend we took a friend out for her birthday. Thanks for any help!
Yeah, you might have had to draw him a map when it came down to "business".
This is just about location...coply square is pretty central, I can't imagine you were an hour away from anywhere in the city...unless you managed to get yourself to RI or Glouster... ;)
Hopefully your date with the new guy goes better.

If I were dating a woman that constantly let me pay without offering or picking up the tab once in a while...i would start to question the relationship. Sure a date or two to see how things work out is fine...but after that it makes me think she doesnt want a boyfriend, she is just hungry.
Just wanted to say that last night I picked up the tab when the BF and I were out to dinner. This post had me feeling guilty! Thanks lorik :) I feel much better now!
Normally, I'd say for a date, whoever invites, pays. Meeting friends for dinner, each takes care of themselves. An acquaintance asking YOU to take THEM to dinner though? Maybe he was trying to be funny?

I agree....the man should pay for the first date....
As long as the woman realizes that she owes him some kind of sex for it <3
No no no, you're looking for those OTHER women...they're on the corner of 14th and 10th Ave, last time I saw. But I make no guarantees of biological second-X chromosomes.

man should pay, it just seems awkward if its any other way.
Why exactly?
Of course in this economy, I predict a new rule: Whoever hasn't been laid off this week pays!
I went out with a guy for the first time Thursday, just for coffee, and he paid. It was actually kind of funny - I ordered first and was just getting my wallet out to pay and he was like "actually, I'll have..." haha.
So now we're going out to dinner Wednesday (why the random weekday, I'm not really sure) - should I let him pay??
