100 Days -- 100 Reasons Why I am Dieting
November 30th marks my 100th day of dieting.... oops, my 100th day of "Healthy Eating!" As I've mentioned before, I seem to be particularly interested in NUMBERS these days .... how many calories in this? How many carbs does it have? How many grams of fat? How many pounds have I lost? Have I lost any inches? What size do I fit into now? How is my BMI doing? What percentage of weight have I lost? Numbers, numbers, numbers ... everywhere. So, a number of weeks ago, I counted back to when I first started, and wrote DAY 100 on the calendar for Friday, November 30 ... sort of a promise to the "future me" that I would still be faithful to my diet on Day #100.
ONE-HUNDRED REASONS WHY I AM DIETING ...1. To improve or eliminate my diabetes. 2. Because I am darn tired of insulin shots. 3. Because I am tired of pricking my finger 4-5 times a day to test my blood sugar. 4. Because my cholesterol was too high. 5. Because my triglycerides were too high. 6. Because my blood pressure is too high. 7. Because my heart rate is too high. 8. Because my asthma was poorly controlled. 9. Because chest pains scared me into thinking I was having a heart attack. 10. Because I don't want to have a heart attack.
11. Because I want to be able to walk my dogs. 12. Because I want to be able to garden and play in my yard. 13. Because I want to be able to walk around the mall without getting short of breath. 14. Because I want to be able to ride a bike. 15. Because I want to be able to go walking around the neighborhood. 16. Because I want to be able to walk up and down hills all over Carmel. 17. Because I want to be able to walk on the beach in the sand. 18. Because I want to play in the waves and be able to walk out through slushy wet sand. 19. Because I want to go hiking in Yosemite. 20. Because I want to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
21. Because I want to be able to fit into booths in restaurants. 22. Because I want to be able to fit comfortably into airplane seats. 23. Because I want to zip around town in my spiffy yellow Mustang without needing a seatbelt extender. 24. Because I want to look at folding chairs as convenient places to sit, and not a collapse waiting to happen. 25. Because I want to be able to sit in plastic lawn chairs without hearing a "crack", followed by a "THUD." 26. Because I want to be able to ride amusement park rides (if I wanted to!) 27. Because I want to be able to tiptoe through the tulips. 28. Because I want to be able to squeeze through narrow spots without getting bruises on my tummy, hips or butt. 29. Because I want to have a lap big enough for a purring kitty to recline. 30. Because I want to have less of an adverse impact on my environment.
31. I want to be able to gracefully sit down on the floor. 32. I want to be able to gracefully get up from the floor. 33. I want to be able to gracefully exit the swimming pool. 34. I want to be able to gracefully walk out of the surf. 35. I would like to be able to cross my legs. 36. I want to be able to bend over and pick things up ... easily. 37. I want to be able to trim my toenails ... easily. 38. I want to be able to polish my own toenails... easily. 39. I want to be able to shave my legs ... easily. 40. I want to be able to put on shoes without sitting down.
41. I want to be in better shape than most seniors. 42. I want to avoid turning red from the slightest exertion. 43. I want to be able to chase my dogs around the back yard. 44. I want to be able to swim laps! 45. I want to stop sweating so much. 46. I am tired of being the fattest person in a room. 47. I am tired of being the fattest person in a store. 48. I am tired of thinking of myself as the fattest person I know. 49. I am tired of thinking of myself as "huge." 50. I am tired of worrying about being fat.
51. I want to be able to select clothes based on factors other than size. 52. I want to have more choices about clothes. 53. I want to wear BRIGHT colors. 54. I want to be able to shop in regular department stores. 55. I am tired of wearing THE largest size a store offers. 56. I am tired of dresses that look like tents. 57. I am tired of bathing suits that look like tents. 58. I want to wear horizontal stripes, and not really care. 59. I want to be able to steal sweaters and sweatshirts out of my DH's closet! 60. I want to wear clothes smaller than my DH wears.
61. I want to learn to tap dance. 62. I want to learn to hula hoop. 63. I want to play volleyball. 64. I want to take a ballroom dance class. 65. I want to skip. 66. I want to play hop scotch. 67. I want to run. 68. I want to jog. 69. I want to sprint. 70. I want to beat my husband in a race.
71. I want One Size Fits All clothes to actually fit me. 72. I want to have to get all my rings re-sized smaller! 73. I want my boobs to stick out more than my tummy. 74. I want a curvy butt. 75. I want a waist. 76. I want to wear slinky underwear. 77. I want to look sexy. 78. I want to look cute. 79. I want to feel pretty. 80. I want to have gorgeous skin.
81. I want to BE healthier. 82. I want to LOOK healthier. 83. I don't want people to pity me. 84. I don't want people to think I am a sloth. 85. I don't want people to think I am lazy. 86. Heck, I want to be drop dead gorgeous! 87. I want to look 10 years younger. 88. I want to be able to have wild sex with my DH. 89. I want to be thinner than at least a few of my friends. 90. I want my DH to be proud of me.
91. I want to know that I can accomplish something BIG. 92. I want to prove that I am not a quitter. 93. I want to fix what I took years to break ... my health. 94. I want to bolster my self-esteem. 95. I want to be a better wife and friend for my DH. 96. I want my parents (who have both passed on) to know that their little girl is little again. 97. I want to inspire others. 98. I want to live a full, happy life. 99. I want to give God all the glory. 100. Because I am so worth it.

Oh Molly, that struck so many chords with me......... every point you make I read and thought, 'yep, check'. We're approaching Christmas and it seems everywhere tv/magazines etc is encouraging us to feast, but it is CHRISTMAS, not an Eatathon! Celebration is the order of the day - stuffing our faces just because the food is there, is not!

Wow! That is so inspirational. I'm new to this site and am starting to lose my motivation. Your posting inspired me to come up with my own Top 100 and a new way to stay motivated.
Goal: Each time I'm about to eat I will add on item to my top 100, perhaps that will help me make better choices about what and how much I eat.
