DDR/Dance Dance Revolution
for those of you who have EVER played Dance Dance Revolution, do you know if the amount of calories it says you are burning during workout mode are accurate? it just seems too easy. today i supposedly burned 800 calories.

Dove asked this question before (the post is here) but the basic idea was that no one was sure... buut that it is a relitively decent number to go by... so congrats :)... but I'll go see if I can find anything

None of us is sure, they DO seem rather high don't they. But..y ou're active.. and that's really what matters, right? :)
this is what I've found:
"Once your workout is complete, a number of stats are available to you. You can see time spent in your session, number of calories burned per song, calories burned per session, total calories burned since your first workout, and equivalency stats comparing your workout to jogging and swimming.
The biggest question is: how much faith should you put in these stats? The answer is "Not much". They are handy as a guide of overall progress, but they are based on formulas that apply only to a mathematical model and not necessarily to your body type, metabolic rate, fluid loss, et cetera.
For example, the stat for calories burned takes several factors into account. Your stated weight, the frequency of steps, and the type of steps all have an impact. At a weight of 150, a single step may burn .031 calories while a double-tap burns .058 and a triple step burns .085. The double-tap burns less than stepping left and down, which burns .073. A jump burns .121, whereas a step followed by a jump burns .142 - which is less than the total of a step and a jump performed by themselves.
The point there is that while there is certainly a complex underlying model for creating these statistics, the model itself can't be verified as any reflection of reality. So, while stat tracking is fun and can show progress, it shouldn't be used as the final word in the evaluation of your workout's effectiveness. Use it to show that you've increased your capabilities, but don't use it as an accurate factor in the determination of your ratio of caloric intake to caloric burn. "
Hope that helps,

I don't have the regular DDR. I only have the Mario Mix one and it's calorie count appears to be really really low. Sometimes I will go through 6 songs perfectly and it says 1.6 calories burned or something.
Yeah, I've got DDR Max, DDR Max 2, DDR Extreme and DDR Extreme 2.. I know DDR Max 2 (my second favorite)'s calories always seem on the low side and DDR Extreme 2 are way on the high side.
But like I said, I think the important thing is to be ACTIVE for a time period, and worry less about the calories :)

OK, I come back with an answer.
So, yesterday, I played DDR extreme with my Polar F6 and the answer is.. DDR Extreme 2, at least, is WAY high - like, my heart monitor said I burned about 800 calories when the game said I burned over 1200.
So... be prepared. The Calorie Counter isn't accurate, but remember.. exercise is exercise :) So... don't overly worry about it :)

I found this on ehow.com:
"How to use DDR for you workout"
To give you an idea of how many calories a song is, a typical (more or less):
Light mode song will burn between 8 and 14 calories, a Standard mode song between 15 and 25.
