Dead skin on feet
Gross, I'm sure!
My skin literally peels. Its been this way ever since I started jogging years ago but I've never bothered to do anything about it. I finally decided to get rid of it and I was curious what the best at home method was. I'm going to buy a pumice rock (I think thats what its called) today. Is there any lotions I should know about or will scrubbing my feet with that rock each morning suffice?
Thanks!
Pumice will help. Metal foot file probably will too.
Do you have sweaty feet? That's probably what's causing the peeling. Get some foot powder (or Gold Bond even) and use that on your feet.
A pumice and lotion every night should do it. If it doesn't go to a podiatrist they can give u an rx for uric (spelling?) acid lotion. its great stuff and works over night.
Yes, my feet sweat a lot when I'm jogging. I'll buy some gold bond as well then!
Thanks for the replies you two!
No problem my man. The Gold Bond should help cut down on any Frok foot funk too. Bonus.
Have you seen the infomercial for the Ped Egg? That might work! I was looking into getting one because my feet peel in the summer. It's kinda similar to the little shaver they use on your feet when you get a pedicure =)
Hi! I have two suggestions: 1. You may want to think about going to a Podiatrist and have him diagnose what is going on with your feet, 2. Start getting a pedicure. I know it sounds like a treat, and it is, but it is also a way to take good care of your feet. They soak your feet, remove cuticles and dead skin, apply cream, etc., and when you are through, you feel like a new person. It is great. I'm a diabetic, so I have to take good care. It's worth it for sure. Call and get some prices; it really isn't too bad.

As a schoolkid I had a problem with 'peeling feet' which was magically cured by the application of socks with a much higher % of cotton in the mix.
Vaseline or bag balm ![]()
my no fail method:
before you go to sleep:
1. soak your feet in warm water and use a sugar scrub on them
2. apply lotion
3. put on socks, and keep them on for a few hours at least.
I hate sleeping with socks on, so I just do this when I'm lounging around the house.
Get a real good pedicure, then maintain them by using your pumice stone and applying bag balm or very thick lotion and wearing socks at night. works like a charm for me! i will get about two pedicures a year. one in the spring and one in the fall! the maintenance is easy! and i paint my toesies myself!

Love, love, LOVE my PedEgg. Just make sure you use it on your feet when they're dry, or you can really irritate your skin. I also have a variety of foot-spa type items that I love: foot soak, exfoliating foot scrub, self-heating foot mask, and ultra-thick foot cream. Use the PedEgg first, then soak your feet, use the foot scrub, put on the mask, then use the foot cream once everything's done. To really hold in the moisture, put socks on after the foot cream to allow it to penetrate more deeply.
One word of advice, though. Make sure you don't have a fungal infection that's causing the peeling before you do anything else. If it's fungal, all you'll do is get the fungus on your pumice stone...the stone won't do much.
Do dudes really go out and get pedicures? Really? Like Air Force dudes?

I think it's GREAT that guys get pedis... AND manis... it says absolutely nothing on your "man card" about losing privileges because you take care of yourself. JMHO though. ![]()

There are several men who get pedicures at the place I go to. I've talked to a couple of them and they say that it's the best treat they give themselves. It's something that shouldn't be reserved just for the ladies - everyone needs some pampering from time to time.
My son and grandson have eczema (sp?) on their feet and had horrible problems with them sweating and peeling.
The doctor siad to make sure the socks are 100% cotton -- at least on the foot part, the elastic at the top is okay. Also, make sure your shoes are leather and "breathe" so that your feet don't stay damp when they get sweaty.
Lastly soaps can aggravate the dryness, particularly deodorant soaps. We used Cetaphil brand soap and lotions on them. It is hypoallergenic, and non-greasy and has no perfumes or dyes. It works great. I still use it on my hands because it makes them feel so smooth and soft.
I use those ped-egg things you used to see on TV that you can now buy in stores. I do it after I shower and my feet are soft, but dry and I lotion them after, they stay smooth and pretty for 2-3 days and then I gotta do it again. I also put lotion on them every night before I go to sleep. I get super dry skin on my feet if I let it go.
Don't wear shoes indoors. I wear cotton slip on slippers right now but I used to wear cotton socks indoors. Can go barefoot, but my home isn't carpet and I don't like walking barefoot on hard surfaces. =[
I have eczema, too, and I just got home from a walk and took off my socks and noticed all my skin was peeling off, so I searched for this post because I remembered reading it. I put lotion on every night and pumice stones kind of freak me out (yes, it's kind of irrational) so I was thinking I should probably use gold bond powder. I have some from back when I used to work.
Also, definitely what karozel said about soaps. I can only use dove for sensitive skin or my skin gets wayyy too dried out. and lubriderm for lotion.
Anyhow, my socks aren't 100 percent cotton because I have this huge issue with losing one of my socks so I have no matches anymore (it's actually due to the fact I take them off in my sleep to scratch my eczema).
Anyhow, I don't like soaking mine either because water dries out my skin, too (seriously, I am so very sensitive to everything. I get rashes from my own tears.)
Gel socks and peppermint & tea tree foot lotion is my secret weapon. I get huge callouses that peel on my feet (they're so gross!) and that's my cure. I use high cotton % socks for running and the gold bond too but still need something to ward it off. I use a pumice stone in the tub and then after they're dried slather on the lotion and toss on the socks for overnight. Mine are toe-less so they aren't so bad to sleep in.... may need to rinse off in the am but it's worth it
I actually tried to get a pedicure a couple months ago and I couldn't sit still while the girl scrubbed my feet. It was funny watching the women there sit calmly, but every time she tried to scrub my feet it tickled so damn bad.
x_x.
Feet are doing better with the pumice rock though!
i get this when i'm running regularly, too (and at no other time).
i agree with 'bunny; let your feet breath as much as possible. also, if you're near a beach, walk barefoot in the sand. it's a natural pedi!
