Is this a decent diet?

Quote  |  Reply

Started this on Friday July 18th, was 229.5 and now 221.5 but at the same time I have built some muscle I believe, and I tend to hold a bit of water as well.

Breakfast:

Bottled water

Crispix cereal and skim milk, was %2 milk but just switched over today.

Apple or Banana, Strawberrie

Lunch:

Bottled water, small glass of cherry coke zero (diet)

Lunch meat sandwich, from Giant (Boar's Head) plain turkey and plain chicken a few slices of each on whole grain bread

Some mixed nuts and a light & fit yogurt

Dinner:

Bottled water

Chicken breast or strip steak, with mixed veggies like corn, peas, green beans, potatoes.

Last meal:

Bottled water

2 eggs scrambled with pepper.

Any snacks I do have would be bottled waterand gum

And any one of these: a granola bar from South Beach diet, or a TLC cereal bar, or Quaker oats 90 calorie pack.

Does that seem like a decent diet? Before I would eat out like McDonalds for breakfast and Taco Bell for lunch, the food taste god but I know is not good. I would com home at night after work and eat a whole big frozen pizza by myself and if I had to guess I drank like 7-8 regular sodas a day. and lots of sugar filled drinks like Coolaid, etc..

Here is my current exercise routine.

Looks like a well-balanced diet...... plenty of vegetables, some fruit, a little dairy and meat and the water is a good choice of drink.  It's a good start.  Nice to see that you're preparing and cooking food for yourself ... always helps.  One granola/cereal bar is a nice sugary treat which probably comes in handy after exercise.   You've obviously lost quite a lot of weight in a short space of time (not unusual in the first week if your old diet was very poor).  It looks as though you're getting plenty to eat but maybe tot up the calories just to make sure that you're getting the right amount for your size, activity level and age.

Well done and good luck

Hm. You did not post the quantities you eat, but it sounds like very little food.

I would disagree with the previous poster about it being balanced - I think that ideally you should add some more fruits and vegetables. A small salad with your lunch sandwich? A piece of fruit as an afternoon snack?

Also, water and chewing gum is not a snack, it's soomething you have instead of a snack.

Edited to add: sorry, I just realised that your snack is water, gum and a snack bar, not just water and gum...

you should try to aim  for these three essentials at every meal: fruit, veggies, and PROTEIN. your diet sounds like it'll work for awhile, but eventually you'll crack because it's not enough food and you don't have enough variety. i hope you're not sticking to that SAME thing everyday? it gets boring after awhile trust me.. i did it too.. anyway, make sure you have plenty of room for other foods and eat at least 1500 cal a day. what's your current BMI?
