Decoration Ideas - Halloween Eyeballs - Help please
I'm making an 'eyeball' platter for a halloween party. The recepies I've found always seem to use olives for the 'iris' and 'pupil', but I'd like to mix it up a bit since not everyone likes olives.
Please give me other ideas for small, round veggies about the same size as a whole olive or a slice of an olive. I'm open to things that would need to be cut to get the shape, but I don't want it to be too difficult or time-consuming.
So far, I've thought of small, sweet pickle slices and capers (yuck!). Then my brain locks up.
Thanks,
Jenn
black grapes, or grape tomatoes
Good Morning.
A girlfriend of mine makes an appetizer called Betty Davis eyes. She molds soft herbed cheese around grapes and rolls them in finely chopped nuts.....pecans I think. She slices them in half to look like eyes. I hope this helps. Happy Halloween!
get the baby bella cheese, cut green olive slices with the red center. place one on top of the other. Green Eyeballs ![]()
You could make small meatballs, with a veg of choice for the iris, in tapas-like dish - in "blood" (tomato sauce). I agree with the cheese suggestion. Small pickled onions would also work.
peeled radishes, and you can use food grade coloring to "paint" them... tho i think they would smeer... but if they didnt move around much they would probably be alright
How about cherry tomatoes? You can get yellow ones where I'm at and probably some of the small green tomatillos in a specialty produce store. Also maybe kiwis, they're a bit bigger but you could cut them.
how about small whole beets??
