In Defense of Food...

...by Michael Pollan is a half decent read, in case anyone could use a book over the weekend.

Here's a link, for anyone interested: http://www.michaelpollan.com/indefense.php

IMO it's not half-decent; it's fantastic! I loved the book. I'm a big Michael Pollan fan. The only bit that irks me is that it should be "defence" and not "defense"... but I'll let that slide Tongue out

I second merylwhite's endorsement.  I love Michael Pollan, he also wrote the Botany of Desire and the Omnivore's Dilemma, which I both really enjoyed.  The Omnivore's Dilemma led me to avoid CAFO meats as much a practicable, and In Defense of Food helped inform my lifestyle changes this year that have helped me lose almost 60 pounds so far.

I too thought it was a great read, not just half decent! I would also recommend the film Food Inc. which is playing in a lot of theaters across the US now.

Meryl- what IS it with all these American spellings? I am still not used to spelling it as 'theaters' and not 'theatres' and write '09/13/2009' instead of '13/09/2009'.....oh well....Smile

Hahaha, totally! Unfortunately Food Inc never screened here although I thought it was going to. I really want to get it out on DVD sometime though.

Oh and people who enjoyed In Defense of Food or Food Inc may well enjoy What To Eat by Marion Nestle (or any of her other books, for that matter).

Hey, in defense of Americans, I do personally spell theater "t-h-e-a-t-r-e" most times.  I think it looks more dignified that way...and I associate the theater with class and elegance.  lol

Oh, and defence is de thing that goes around your yard. LOL :D

Haha! By "yard" I take it you mean your garden... Laughing

Meryl, when Americans think "garden" we think "little plot of land devoted to flowers or vegetables"...they are often fenced.

To Americans "yard" is the grass lawns around one's house, in which there may be a garden.  Some yards are fenced, especially if the homeowner owns a dog.  Laughing

I know... I'm just teasing :P

I know...I just like to have the last word. XP
