I have been eating about 1,350 calories a day (site recommendation).  I burn roughly 2,000 calories/day (burn meter estimate).  A friend thinks my deficit (650 cal/day- before exercise) is too big.  Is it, iyo?  Thanks

No, that deficit will make you lose 1.3 pounds per week which is healthy. 2 pounds is the maximum, so I would say that your deficit is just about perfect. A lot of people say 500 is the right number, but it seems that you're eating enough so you should be fine.

It is too big. You need to reduce the gap otherwise your metabolism is going to slow down and you'll have a more difficult time shedding that weight.

Minan - Your statement goes contrary to everything that this site attempts to teach people.  The recommendation is between 500 and 1000 calories per day.  At 650 the above described deficit is just right.  It would be much more helpful, if you are going to make statements like that, if you were to back yourself up with some sort of helpful information.  I've been running a deficit of between 500 and 1000 calories for 5 months now and I haven't noticed ANY slowing of metabolism.

Almareal - That deficit is probably just fine.  My only question would be how much you burn in exercise each day.  You don't want to push yourself into too much deficit by burning a LOT at exercise and not eating some of it back.

Right.  If you exercise, eat most of it back.  Even though the site says you can have up to 1000 calorie deficit & be healthy, you may find it difficult to feel full on a 1000 calorie deficit & thus be more susceptible to binging.  For me, I find it is easier to maintain a 400 cal deficit than a 500 one -- so feel free to play around until you find what works for you.

almareal-

i think your deficit sounds good.  i eat about the same as you and after logging exercise and other activites i end up with a 500-800 deficit depending on the day, and my i feel very satisfied.  i would stick with what CC recommends because it really does work.  if you come across a plateau or anything else, then you can make adjustments, but it sounds like you are doing just fine!

good luck in your weight loss endeavors!

Thank you all for your replies, I really appreciate it!
