Deficit: how much is too much?
Hi everyone!
I've only been here for a week and I really want to get all of this right (it's very motivating for me).
I exercise a lot, this of course adds up to my burned calories. I was wondering: what is a too big calorie deficit? (in other words, when does your body go into starvation mode and do I have to eat something extra?)
Thanks in advance!
A healthy deficit is usually between 500-1000 calories (weekly). It's best to avoid going over a 1000-calorie deficit though.
Your calorie deficit should be no more than 1000 calories per day. (1000 kcal per day = 2 lbs loss per week)
There's also absolute minimum amounts of calories you should eat every day, so pay attention to that too. :) Usually the best working deficit for me is 500 calories/day which is 1 lb a week.
Hi there & welcome =] The general consensus on this is between 500-1000 a day. 1000 cal/day is about 2 lbs per week, the healthy recognized number. It is usually hard to do this though, because as previously stated, there are caloric minimums (aka your BMR at LEAST), so don't under eat. The results, if there are any, won't last and it won't be healthy loss.
Ok, thanks for clearing that up everyone! :)
