Hey Melissa,
My names Adam, I’m 18 and have about 100lbs to lose.
I understand how you feel everyone needs support and nothing stops a diet faster than someone who is all alone!
So I’m free if you ever want to talk about your successful weight loss! it always helps.
Adam
Welcome Melissa: I'm a tad bit older, but I have daughters your age. I have been on the roller coaster of the diet world longer than you have been alive
.
CC is a great place to turn to for advice and friendship. I try not to give advise unless asked, or something thought provoking has been said. I don't know all the answers to diet questions, but I bet I've heard them all, tried many, succeeded, and failed, given up, BUT, I'm back on my feet again. I am loving this web-site.
Take advantage of the recipe builder. It's wonderful for creating your own recipes, or just checking out ingredients. I don't always cook a meal (it's just me around here), so sometimes I take advantage of foods like Slim Fast, Lean Cuisine, Weight Watchers dinners and all kinds of pre-prepared frozen meals.
First off I will tell you my best diet buddy is my oldest daughter. We have been doing this together. She lives in Denver, I live in Bend, OR. We've had a sort of on going bet who hits the 160's first. This morning we reported to each other our weights. We both got down into the 160's, but she lost .2 more than I did, so I guess she wins.
. I'm not really crying, but the next challenge will be to get into the 150's. We have found that both of us seem to get to a certain point and decide we don't need to try any more. I'm not letting her give up her goal and she won't let me give up mine. So, if you find someone you can relate to grab them by the noggin and say, please be my buddy. Tonnie
I am new to this website also. I haven't discovered the recipe builder yet. I will try to find it and figure out how to use it. I have been using the logs and the nutrition database though! I hate counting calories and this website is really helpful! I would love to be anyones diet buddy! I don't know anyone on this site yet. I have been going strong for 4 days now and I have 90 lbs to loose to get back to the low recommendation for my height. I have a ways to go, but I have to do this now before I graduate and start a family. I have heard that loosing weight after having kids is harder, is that true? If it is, is it biological, or is it just that raising kids makes it harder to find time to work out? Perhaps it is just like Lissabee was saying, you just tend to eat your kids food? ![]()
Some people get lucky and the weight just falls off after kids and some of us have to work on it. I cant go out and excersize(no time) so Im basically relying on a healthy food lifestyle.
Two kids! I am jealous! I don't get to have kids for another four years when my husband and I graduate. I am really excited to start a family. All of my older siblings already have kids.
On the eating healthy, I have been trying to cut my fat grams back but keep my calories reasonable. I am having a hard time with it. I don't know if my kitchen just isn't ready and I need to go change out some stuff, or if keeping your calories up and your fat down is just going to be difficult. I have been trying to keep my fat under 20-25 grams per day but when I do this I end up with just under 1200 calories, which isn't healthy. Let me know how it goes for you.
Yeah it's hard to have the proper amount of calories without exceding the fat amount! but once you figure that everything goes fine...
Im still trying to figure of the proper calories to fat proportion... because within the last 3 days i've been on this site i've lost almost three pounds... which is a nice fealing but it's not healthy, you need to be able to stick to the diet your on after the weight is gone because if your on a diet losing 5-7 pounds a week and then after binge you'll gain more weight then when you started and it's depressing :( But im hoping this time will be better :D good luck to you all.
(hope I made ANY sense!)

This is to anyone that needs a buddy. I'm here. Melissa, I see you haven't created a profile yet. That gives you a "home" to go to and lets you post in a journal. You can write your thoughts, troubles, victories and people respond to what you write in your journal.
I will answer and add you to my friends list as quickly as I can. For some stupid reason I signed up under AOL, but I use Yahoo 99% of the time. It just seems to take so long on AOL to get signed in to it. By the way my name is Tonnie, to anyone that cares.
You will meet friends, probably ones that have more interests in common with you, but don't cross me off your list.
Someone asked about the Recipe builder. It is so great! It takes a bit of fenagelling to add the ingredients properly, but that comes with practice. I use it quite a bit to find the calories, and get the nutrition info. I am using CC along with Weight Watchers, so I count points and the nutrition info is vital to my WW success. These are just 2 tools I have in my back pocket. My daughter is also struggling with weight. She is my inspiration. And she tells me I am her's.
Jenova82, if you are unsure about the fat content of just about anything, use the food finder. I have rarelly come across a food that I wasn't able to find in that. Lowering your fat intake is just a matter of wanting to. But, remember, a product labeled low in fat, doesn't necessarily mean low in calories. If you need to boost your calorie intake eat something! Be reasonable about it. I wouldn't go out and get a big-mac, but I would eat extra fruit or vegetables. If you look at the market, there are tons of good quality items to choose from. Become a label reader. I personally like fig-newtons. I don't eat them all the time, but I see what a serving is, and that is what I will eat. Eat is slowly. Savor it. Take what you can have and put the rest in the freezer or somewhere else out of sight.
I've recently upped my fiber intake. Yee-haw. Take the 10 day fiber challenge. I personally like the Bran Buds better than the original. Go to their web site wwwAll-Bran.com. They have a much wider variety of foods than I ever realized.
Well, I've rattled on enough for one night. I hope to become friends with all of you. Eat healthy, eat smart. Become aware of what your ingesting into that body of yours. Keep a sense of humor, and don't be afraid to use it. Laughing lowers your stress level too. Don't be afraid to pray. G'nite all.
I posted something similar a couple days ago looking for support. I'm not a new member, but..shall we say a returning member. I'll friend you :)
Yay!! We've got a whole buddy system going on now!! We can all help cheer eachother on!
hello all! I started today. I have 100lbs to lose and i'm doing a 1,000cal a day diet. no let me say, 1,000 cal a day change of eating plan. so far so good. LOL but it is the first day. I would like to be apart of this buddy system. I don't have kids but i have twin nephews (boys) and can add to the conversation. has anyone started working out yet. (Day 1- 240lbs)
I have been going strong for at least six days now (I did some before I found this site). Welcome to our little group of buddies! I don't have kids either. My older three siblings do though. So far everyone in my family has gotten married in order of age and now each had their first child in order of age, so I guess I am next.
Oh well, I guess they will just have to wait, as I don't get my masters degree for another 4 yrs!!
ncaggie we have almost the same situation! I am 250 right now, needing to loose 90 lbs. It is a bit daunting isn't it? I want to be in shape in time for next summer!! I have decided that I am not going to tell my family that I am doing this and then I am going to take a road trip next year and surprize them all!! It will be fun. ![]()
I suggest anyone in our little buddy group that hasn't started a journal should. It is a good motivator for me knowing that all of you will read it if I fail and have to tell all in my journal. It is what got me out jogging today!
Yes our little army of buddies!
I'm in the same boat as you Jenova and Ncaggie! I'm 302.5 (or was when I started) and need to get down to a healthier weight 180-200lbs I'll start posting in my journal soon :D
Good luck to you all!
