Degenerative disc disease and exercising
I have degenerative disc disease and I am trying to lose weight. I started a deep water exercise class, which I enjoy. And yes there are a lot of older ladies in the class, but let me tell ya they can kick my butt! I am taking the class 3 times a week for 45 mins ea class. I would like to add something else to my exercise regimen. I tried Pilates, but some of the moves I cannot due to the twisting. Anyone have any suggestions? I would truly appreciate it.
Thanks!
I'm 43 yrs young (hahahaha) and I also have DDD and have limited range of motion also. My dr told me not to even attempt pilates! lol I lift 8 lb weights for my arms. I can't do squats, but if you can that would be good with the weights. I have alot of left leg pain from nerve damage so I'm really limited. But really, you have to just try different things. Maybe change some exercises to fit you. That's what I do.
OK, here's the disclaimer. I'm not a doctor. Check with your doc before starting an exercise program. I don't want anyone hurt.
That being said, I have back problems up the gazoo. And this helps me; I combine it with walking and cycling, for strength.
Do a search online and you'll find much info. There's also instructional videos and a TV show featuring this.
It's called chair aroebics. (It may be misspelled, if so please forgive.) Basically, you do all the moves sitting in a STURDY chair, preferably with no arm rests or wheels. This allows me to target my arms and such, without as much pressure on specific areas, like my back and knees. Check it out, it may help.
