it is not possible. possible is one to two pounds per week. you should allow up to a year to lose that much weight.
I think it depends on how much weight you have to lose. If you only have 50 pounds to go til you are at your healthy weight then it may take a year. However, if you are 200 pounds overweight you may lose 50 pounds rather quickly. But 5 months is a pretty short timeline. It might happen in 6 months, but I would give yourself more time.
it IS possible depending on how much you weigh and where you are really trying to get down to.  Is it healthy? Depends.

If you weigh 250, and want to weigh 200, yea its possible.  If you weigh 180 and want to weigh 130... well nope I dont see it happening to be honest.

Just have to do it like the rest of us.  Watch your calories, keep your metabolism up by eatting 5 small meals a day, and working out like you mean it.
i don't think anyone can tell you "exactly how" to lose 50 pounds in 5 months, since this whole "diet" or calorie-counting method is different for everyone, but i am sure that others will say that it is a bit "aggressive" to try to lose 50 in 5. you'd have to lose over 2lbs per week, which is not recommended. if you lose weight too quickly, you can mess up your metabolism and hormones and various other things that go on inside our bodies.

to answer your question - it may be possible, but i wouldn't bet on it. 40 lbs in 5 months would be a better, more attainable goal, so if you can't lose 50, don't beat yourself up over it...

good luck :)

It's impossible to lose so much from just body fat.

The theoretical calorie deficit to create that big loss would lead to lost muscle mass, lowered BMR, therefore slowing down progress. You could never meet the goal, and after the 5 months you'd probably end up with higher body fat percentage.

* Assuming this 50 lbs is the amount of overweight you have. For someone who is 200 lbs overweight loss of 50 in 5 months isn't that much.
well if it makes you feel more hopeful 10 pounds  come off right away in water weight. especially if you are overweight.

so that would give you 5 months and 40 pounds

thats 20 weeks.

so if you lost 2 pounds per week with no stalls. technically it could happen depending on your stats in a healthy way.
but thats the max amt of loss you can do a week.

and even if you only lose 1 pound per week thats 20 pounds.
and thats what you should shoot for to look your best and not hit any stalls.

there is a cal count recc in the tools section:
http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/calorie s-goal.php

plug in your stats and current and it will set your goal and the time frame it will take.

Don't get discouraged!  Even if you take off 30 - allowing for faster in the beginning, then slower, you will look better, feel better and be on your way.  Don't procrastinate.  The sooner you start, the sooner you get there.  =)
Well to give you hope I did lose 50 lbs in 5 months with an average loss of 2 lbs a week.  I will also tell you it wasn't easy - it takes commitment and no cheat days and lots of exercise.  If you have the willpower it could be doable I was however very overweight and like others said if you aren't that much overweight it might not be doable.  I was able to maintain my loss for 4 months before I quit smoking and then thru all my eating right  out the window and gained back.  Losing it this 2nd time around has been very hard.  I just don't have that drive I did before.  I am not willing this time around to do the work basically.  I still work out alot and try to eat right but doing the strict diet plan is not what I want to do again at this time.

I lost the weight on the "Type 2 Diabetes Diet" book by something Ezrin.  You can get the book on Amazon.com  It is very low cal low fat low carb.

I found out I had heart disease last spring, so I switched to a vegetarian eating plan.  I've always been a yo-yo dieter and had previously had a really bad time with all kinds of diets.  This one is heavy on the whole grains, vegetables, fruits, has a little soy, a little fat free dairy, and a little egg whites.  I take a multi and prescription fish oil supplements.

I was thrilled to find that, not only was my weight loss quick, steady, and consistent, but I felt wonderful.  I had an incredible increase in energy.  I lost forty-eight pounds from July through December.  I did "cheat" a little (Thanksgiving, Christmas, an occasional bite of something I had to cook for my husband).

The more weight you have to lose the easier it is to take it off in the beginning.  My second fifty pounds are going a little slower and I'm having to increase the intensity of my workouts.

This is what I did.   Hope it helps.  I highly recommend the zig-zagging and the three quick walks a day (or something similar).  And remember, everyone is different.

1) I set calorie and nutrient goals and logged my food, so I could track my nutrients carefully and make certain I got enough protein, fiber, etc.  I tried to keep my BMR balance at around 1000 calories, so that I would lose 1.5 to 2 pounds a week.

2) I exercised often.  I took three 30 minute walks (1 mile each) each day (5 days a week) and saw my trainer twice a week.  The 3 times a day was important to keep my metabolism up.

3)Tried hard not to go below 1200 calories, though sometimes I did.

4)Zig-zagged my calories.  Ate 1200 for two days and then increased to a higher level for two days (based on the recommended intake for normal weight loss for me).

5)Didn't "go hungry", but stayed just a tiny bit hungry, eating often. Divided my meals into mini meals that I ate five or six times a day.  If I was just starving, I went ahead and ate something healthy.  I probably needed it.

6)Kept refined foods (sugars, flours) at the very lowest level I could.  Used Splenda in moderation.   Every time I ate extra refined carbs I became ravenously hungry.  Stay away from them!  Natural sugars in fruit, etc. are fine.  A little dried fruit is usually OK.

7)I was on an extremely low fat diet because I have heart disease.  "Normal" people should use good fats in moderation, though.

8)I learned to cook again.  It's amazing how simply and quickly you can pull together a good meal from scratch, and this really cuts down on the sodium, fat, and refined products.  I freeze portion sizes of foods I prepare to make it fast and easy.
it is possible, i lost 60 lbs in 6 months, and i didnt even cut calories then. just went to the gym and cut out white flour, white sugar, and all that other processed stuff. as well as salt and other unhealthy add ons
I posted something a while back about how my college roommate who I haven't seen in a year lost 85 lbs in 6 months.  She went from 225 to 140.  I was floored.  People on here told me it was possible though.  I know for my body (and probably most people's) it would be unhealthy, but it worked for her.

Weight loss is a funny thing.  You can calculate down to the day how long it SHOULD take to lose say 50 lbs, but often your body has another idea.  For example.  I had a defecit this week that was on target for a 1.5 lb loss but I only lost .8 lbs.  Sometimes we can do everything perfectly and not lose any weight!

I would say start by setting mini weight loss goals for a while.  It will help you learn what pace your body is going to work at, and then set some long term ones.  Long term goals with dates can be frustrating because if you get a few days or weeks "behind" your set goal you will set yourself up to feel like you failed when in actuality you have made huge progress.

Sorry for the long rant here.....  This post jumped out at me because I have been coming to the realization that I am probably not going to meet my own dated goal in July for my wedding, and I have been thinking through all this stuff.
I have lost 58 pounds and it will be 6 months at the end of this month.  I started out at 251 so I had lots to lose.  It has been a total lifestyle change for me.  I have not had fast food in 6 months, I have not had a coke in 6 months ( I did have 1 diet coke)  I drink water and milk, eat very healthy and exercise every day.  I eat 1400 calories a day and have found that if I go under that my weight loss slows down.

Just keep at it, eat healthy and exercise.
YES it's possible. My husband weighed 366 when he started & he lost 52 lbs in one MONTH!  He must have had a LOT of water weight, cuz in his first week he lost 32lbs & 2nd week he lost 9.

Now he's slowed down a bit but still losing around 3-5 a week.

At 2lbs a week, you'd be finished your weight loss of 50 lbs in 25 weeks. That's only 5 months or so, so you can!!!

You have to be sooo diligent about your eating. That's the majority of the battle! I know for a fact (from experience) that you can exercise your a$$ off and if you don't eat good, you can GAIN weight. So eat clean & you'll be a fat burning machine!!!!
Oh and my plan is to lose 44 by may 31, which will be 4 months. & I"m more than half way there now (26 lbs in 52 days). You can do it!!!!
