Hey there! I would love to join this club! I may not be
able to be on here ALL the time due to being in school full time, but
it will be a great place to fess up and share ideas and get inspiration
from others who are going thru the same process...
Starting weight: 280lbs (July 06, 2007) is the highest ever
Current weight: 268lbs
mini-goal: 250lbs
ultimate goal weight: 175 (or whatever FEELS right when I get to it)
This weeks weigh in -4.5lb loss...woohooo
Plan: to stay at or below 1600 calories a day, drink only water or milk (FF), eat nothing fried, eat plenty of green veggies and lots of fruits, and try and stay from anything processed. I think that is about it. So far I've lost 12lbs by doing this, so I guess its working and I am content with this eating style...
Well, you all have a great day!

Hello Everybody,
I'm looking for WHAT IS WORKING for you. I cannot use a scale, I'm going to go by what size clothing I'm wearing: when I can't keep my pants up any more I'll go buy a smaller size. I won't be able to post weights here but I can post current size, new size. I do have an ultimate size goal ... hope that will be OK with everybody.
1. Starting size : 18/20, XXL ... this is highest ever
2. Mini Goal size: 14/16, XL by Xmas 2007
3. Mini Goal size #2: size 12 swimsuit by summer 2008
4. Ultimate Goal: off the rack size 8, medium and basically just looking good in sleeveless tops and shorts :) .
5. Plan: 1200 calories per day, whole foods, lean proteins, heavy on veggies, easy on whole grains, non-fat dairy.
I'm really good Monday breakfast through Friday lunch; then weekends get hard. I'm trying to average 1200 over several weeks, some days I'm satisfied at 1000, other days I've eaten 1400 ... last weekend Mom was visiting and I hit 2500 (wine, chocolate cake, taste testing contest recipes).

Hello fellow optomists,
With over 100lbs to lose the only option is optomism, no room for any 'stinking thinking'. After trying every diet known to man and a few others I will own up to in the after life I have decided that now is the time to get real, no more excuses I just won't accept them. I am alone most of the time as I live in Kuala Lumpur and don't have any friends as yet so I certainly do talk to myself inspiring myself to get off the couch go down to the gym every day and only eat good natural foods. No more processed food or alcohol. I just keep saying I can do it, especially when I am on the treadmill and they mind is waivering after five minutes. Already lost 16 pounds (this time) so onwards and downwards.
starting weight 253 August 2007
hightest ever 298
mini-goal weight 1 220
mini-goal weight 2 190
Plan lower carbs, walking 30 minutes a day, keep my brain busy and keep positive and hope I make a friend soon!

I love this group! What a great idea.
x17star17x (Melinda), your pictures are amazing and so inspiring. It is so wonderful that you are doing this, and while you are still so young. I am 34 and I have also been very heavy all of my life. Part of me is, of course, really glad to be making these changes now, but part of me is sad that I was overweight and unable to do a lot of the things I wanted when I was younger. Not that I think I am old at 34, but I feel like I missed out on something during a "fun" period of life. However, I intend to make up for lost time!
I see that you are now eating 1200 calories a day, which makes sense because you are so close to goal. How many calories did you start with, and how often did you revise your limits? I have lost 45 pounds so far since April 15 (from 343 to 298) and I am still eating around 2250 a day (I also exercise most days to varying degrees). I think it is time to move that number down, but I am finding that difficult and that worries me because I know I have to eat less as I lose weight in order to keep losing.
Any advice on how to make these downward adjustments? I directed this to Melinda but of course I would love to hear what anyone has to say about this. Thank you!

Great job heather. You may find it easier than you think to not weigh yourself. Just have a good time with your bf this weekend.
I have two regular weigh in times each week - one is Thursday morning - for my personal weight loss journal. The other is Sunday afternoon - for our family weight watchers group. Anyway, this morning I weighed in at 249.8lbs - first time under 250 since before my son was born (almost 4 years ago). YES!
I'm having a hard time not weighing myself everyday. I like knowing what I started the day at, and it also reminds me every morning that I am on a diet and I will stick to it to make the number get smaller every week.
Oy. I'm feeling very lethargic today.

Rebepi -
I do the same thing - can't stay off the scale. I just finished my morning workout and will probably step on it again. I should be a bit higher - because I drank about 24 oz water and my morning shake since weighing in this morning. But it's a lot of fun when the number goes down each week!

and michelle... I agree with you as far as weighing... there is no "study" that says whether it's better or worse to do it... all depends on how it affects your psyche...I weigh myself... oh, probably four times a day... but it doesn't affect my emotions.
The only tme my weight "counts" tho is first thing in the morning. (and as far as the challenge I'm doing here... it' only counts on FRIDAY morning)
I had two weeks in there where I literally went up one day... down the next... and it didn't change significantly at all... but it didn't really affect my overall feeling... this is about a lifetime of thin and healthy... not a number on the scale, so I just rolled with the punches..
That being said... My plateau DEFINITELY broke this week... down another .8 pounds this morning for a total of 3.4 pounds so far this week.

ajjcir: I just checked out your pictures! How fabulous are you! You look wonderful!
I, too... workout EVERY day... more than an hour most days... and pretty hard core working out... I started slow... but I'm three years into the workouts... so now I do advanced step aerobics/spin classes/ 90 minutes on the elliptical, etc. and I feel AWESOME!
The last day I took "off" was in mid July and that's because we walked around an amusement park all day, and I ran out of time.
I do occasionally do an "easy" day... no cardio... and just weights... or short cardio... just to mix things up!

The best tip was the one that my mom gave me... (She's a triathlete... and she STILL dreads working out pretty much every day.) You never FINISH a workout and say, "I wish I hadn't worked out today!" but you eat yourself up with guilt if you don't!
The other thing is for now... just don't really push that hard... start slow... go for a little bit.. but do SOMETHING every day... even if it's just stretching in the living room... or sitting on the couch lifting weights... but set a certain time...
"Today... I'm going to workout for ten minutes." Doesn't sound so bad, right?
Finish today and "Tomorrow, I'm going to workout for ELEVEN minutes."
HONESTLY... when your body changes and you start feeling more fit... it will WANT you to push it harder... you will FEEL like getting out of breath and pushing ypurself.. .I SWEAR it... (Just like noe your body doesn't want you to put processed foods in it anymore... right? And you want to eat healthy because it FEELS better.)
And working out will make you LESS lethargic... Once you get to the point where you can workout long enough/hard enough for your body to release endorphins... working out is it's own kind of high.
I know I sound like a NUTCASE... but it's for real!
