Which Democrat and Which Republican are Most ELECTABLE?
Now, I don't care who you LIKE most or want to win most, just who is most ELECTABLE.
Personally, I prefer Kucinich, but I'm a die-hard lefty and am under no illusion that there is any chance of Kucinich ever getting the nomination or even a VP nod.
I look at the democrats and it seems a toss-up to me.
On the plus side:
Obama is smart, well-spoken and extremely likeable
Hillary is competent, hardworking and tough
Edwards is southern, handsome and passionate about regular people
On the negative side:
Obama is less experienced and has an exotic name that can easily (and dishonestly) be used to link him to radical islam and terrorism
Hillary comes off harsh and seems to annoy a LOT of people
Edwards is seen as vain and lacking in political savvy
It's a toss-up with these three, but I'll go out on a limb and say at this point, I think Hillary may be most electable
As for the republicans, I still kinda think Romney would stand the best chance nationwide. He's pretty and not extremist, anyway.
Giuliani is a 9-11 broken record who dresses in drag and pays for his bimbos with tax money
McCain is nutzo, old as hell and LOVEs the Iraq war, too much even for a republican
Thompson is arrogant and lazy - isn't 8 years of that enough?
Most electable:
Dems - Hillary
Repubs - Romney
Actually, I think Edwards is probably the most electable Dem. He has some experience.
Hillary is seen as a shrewd, political player, part of the status quo, a woman (for those it matters to and there are some) and worse yet, for the republican parts of the nation, a Clinton.

Okay, I can go with that - I've been vacillating between Hillary and Edwards on this for a while now.
What about on the repub side?
I guess the question is... who makes up the voting republicans.. I wouldn't ignore Huckabee yet as he seems to be the Religios Rights' Candidate of Choice. At least in Iowa.
I dunno past that. They seem a pretty diverse bunch...
I agree with you. Dems should realize that as much as Obama is for "change" they need to go with whoever is most electable, and that would be Hillary. If Gore and Kerry could not pull this off last few elections, Obama will not stand a change in a general election.
On republican side, I believe Romney is presentable and business-friendly, but who knows where evangelical vote will go?
Who could be Hillary's running mate?
They are costing us billions, folks, 'electable' or not...it is time for a change.
I also would say Edwards for dems.
Huckabee would be a shoe-in if he had more conservative fiscal (ie "free market") tendencies. So, I think McCain might be the most electable Rep. He's old, but Reagan was old and they LURVE them some Reagan. And McCain is going around with a No Surrender slogan on his bus - that will appeal to Reps, even if they have misgivings about the Iraq war. And he's got the pro-life cred too. I've heard a lot of Republicans saying that Romney is too much of a phony - perhaps they are imagining that he would be branded a flip-flopper a la John Kerry. Perhaps they would be right. ::giggles::
Edwards v. McCain
hard to say who would win in that match up
let's put 'em in the ring!
*DING, DING*
I would still say Edwards for the dems.
And surprisingly, I would say Huckabee for the reps - since he's the only rep with a progressive economic agenda.
Kucinich all the way!

Romney is Mormon so I really doubt that the evangelicals will vote for him.
As the only non-democrate who has commented so far (and possibly only one that will) AND as someone who fits the demographic of 'evangelical' I can say, no, I wouldn't vote for Romney being that Mormonism is a cult.

This comment took me by surprise. Catherine, can I ask you a question? How do you define a Religion vs. A Cult?
I'm just curious. I mean no ill will.
Also not a democrat.

"Cult" means "any religious sect other than mainstream Christianity", I guess. No skin off my nose, but I'm sure there are a few LDS posters here who would take offense.
Personally, I think the only religions that should be termed cults are those who use coercion, make people give huge amounts of money to the cult, force people to cut off ties to friends and family, etc.
Sure the LDS bible has some preposterous stories in it, but so does the Christian bible. Christians just give it a pass because it's a couple thousand years older. Many of the "holy men" who created Judaism, Christianity and the old and new testaments were probably just as worldly, greedy and manipulative/deceptive of their followers as Joseph Smith seems to have been. The only meaningful differences between LDS and mainstream Christianity are the number of years in operation and the number of followers.
I've had a number of mormon friends and NONE of them ever pushed their religion on me, and every one of them was as kind and honest a person as I've ever known. So even if the religion is full of malarkey, it can't be all bad.
In terms of sheer electability, for Dems I'd say Edwards, and for Reps I'd say it's Huckabee.
As for who I currently support, I really like Obama, but would support Edwards. While extremely intelligent, capable, and qualified, Hillary is someone I just don't quite trust.
I don't want this to get ugly either, so no ill will here. To answer your question, basically religion is a cult.
I believe that Jesus is who he said he is and that the bible is the inspired word of God. However I think humans, in all their flaw, have tried to make a system; religion, which adds things that God never intended. All that said, I go to church and call myself a Christian because I think there's a difference between being a plain and simple bible believer who wants to connect with those of like mind as compared to the messy bureaucracy of beliefs that man has constructed, apart from God.
I don't mind talking about it, I just ask that anyone who wants to keeps it civilized. This is a 'hot button' thing around here, which is why I keep my distance most times.
I meant no offense in my original comment about Romney, it was just an observation. I live in a small town in Texas right now with lots of evangelicals and I can tell you 100% that there is no Romney support here.
And technically I'm registered as an Independent. :)

A religion with no political power.
(Although that may not be the case if Romney gets better ratings...)
