Just had dental surgery, need to eat liquid food, need advice.

Hi everyone. This morning, I had an apicoectomy performed on a tooth.

The post-care instructions tell me that I should eat "soft or liquid foods" for the first few days. In addition, I am supposed to pop a capsule of amoxicilin (antibiotics) four times a day until I am done with the perscription (about 5 days).

I want to make sure that I am getting good nutrition during this time, and replenishing the good yeast and bacteria in my intestinal tract that are going to be killed by the antibiotics.

My plan is to eat fruit smoothies, multivitamins and kombucha beverages.

Is this a good plan? Any improvements or suggestions?

Well, you could add a weight loss or protein shake like EAS.
Thanks. I had one of these as part of my lunch today:

Bolthouse Perfectly Protein Vanilla Chai Tea with Soy Protein.

It seems to have the same sort of stuff as an EAS shake, according to what I can find on the web. Is there anything special about EAS shakes?

Eek, that sounds ouchy.

Be careful with the smoothies....they can be more sorbet than fruit! Id suggest adding a good organic yogurt (live active cultures of course), maybe oatmeal if you arent feeling full (good source of fiber while still being 'soft'.

Feel better!
Nope....just an example.
Thanks. Oatmeal is another good idea.

Also, replenishing the active cultures is what the Kombucha drink is supposed to do.
soup, preferably homemade.  i have a couple of recipes for pureed lentil soups - yummy and nutritious!  PM me if you're interested.
When I had my wisdom teeth removed last summer, soups were my saviours.  You can often get more nutrition into a smoothie you make yourself by basing it with yogurt and frozen fruit, and adding protein powder/instant breakfast powders.

Hope you feel better soon!
try a yogurt with protein powder mixed in.....worked for me and suppose to help prevent "dry sockets"
Fruit smoothies are a good idea. Add protein powder, tofu, oatmeal, cottage cheese, yogurt, or milk if you need the protein boost.

For soups, add tofu and or beans for added fiber and protein. Home made is the better option, as it won't be loaded with sodium. If you're still lacking in protein or fiber, you can dip whole wheat bread in your soup. Just dip a corner in and wait until the bread absorbs the soup and becomes soft. No chewing involved.

Many veggies, when cooked, are soft enough or can be mashed to be easily consumed. Examples are cauliflower, egg plant, tomatoes, squash, or cabbage. And who could forget delicious, home made mashed potatoes! :D

If your sweet tooth is nagging you, try microwaving/baking fruits such as sliced bananas, peaches, nectarines, mangoes, or apples until mushy, and add cinnamon for a fake 'pie.' These are much healthier, and in my opinion, tastier substitutes to twinkies or other cakes.

Mushy diets don't have to be all oatmeal and smoothies. Get creative! Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you to everyone for your advice.

I got my stitches removed yesterday and am back to eating normal food again. The dentist was happy with how the incision healed (almost completely invisible now) and how pink and healthy my gum line looks in general.
