Quote  |  Reply
hey ladies

ive just come off the depo contraceptive injection. i was on it for a year and 4 months and have been off it for 14 days, whilst on it i have gained 31lbs, from 120 to 151lbs, (im 5'5 and 22)

has anyone else been off it for a little longer than 14days and have found losing the extra weight caused by it easy? or how long has it been to really be able to loss the extra weight easy? just seems like im battling it!!

It took me up to a year for my system to get back to normal and actually get a TOTM when I went off of Depo.  So don't expect it to happen overnight.  I would just do what you can, follow CC and see how it goes.  Everyone is different.
Wow, I never knew that depo would have something to do with your weight.  I love depo because it's so convenient.  I will have to look into some alternatives.
70% of women using Depo Provera gain weight. Almost half of the women using Depo Provera gain more than 5 pounds after one year of use. Some women gain more than 10 pounds in a year. That's what my doctor told me. However, I think it's all in the woman. For the simple fact if you're trying to maintain a healthy weight it's completely do-able. I've been on the Depo shot for over a year now and I haven't gained any weight at all. In fact, I've lost weight. I'm 5'2 and 105lbs. Depend on the woman. Do whatever works best for you. Weight is something that you can control though. There are pro's too..

  • Private.
  • Effective after 24 hours.
  • Does not require regular attention.
  • Does not interrupt sex play.
  • Has no estrogen.
  • May decrease risk for ovarian and uterine cancers.
  • Women can start Depo Provera 6 weeks after giving birth.
The first time i came off it, i lost about 14lbs without changing anything - over about 2-3 months.

My mistake was going back on it. I gained 42lbs when i went on it a second time :(. I'm back off it again, never to be stabbed again!
It took 2 years for my TOM to come back last time. I'm still waiting for it to return again this time round.

I have been on depo for 10 years and slowly gained alot of weight over that time although I eat better and exercise more now than I ever have.  Being frustrated at still gaining weight and constantly trying to lose it, I come off the depo 4 weeks ago as a last resort to why I can't lose weight!  My appetite has decreased back to what it was 10 years ago and I am losing the weight. I found with the depo I was always hungry and could eat anything at any given time- now I'm not starving all the time and having to stop myself from eating it's great, I feel like a different person! I wish I had gone off it sooner!
My experience with Depo has not been so good.

Not only did I gain alot of weight from it, I also have not gotten pregnant again in 10 years after stopping. I knew another that had trouble, as well, but she finally was able to concieve eventually.
