depo-provera weight question

Quote  |  Reply
This is for the women out there -

I've been on Depo-Provera (birth control shot) for years now. Yesterday was my three month shot - it was also the worst binge day I've had since I started calorie counting.

Could that injection of hormones be related to my out of control eating? Does anyone out there take depo, and if so have you had the same weird problem?

I have been on Depo for 6 months now and for about 2 I have been trying to lose weight. I am finding that weeks I "binge" I either maintain or gain about a pound. I am way over weight and want to lose. I really think it is the depo, because some days I just can not control the cravings. I try to eat a good amount of calories and on the days I can't control I feel great, not hungry. On depo I gained 20 lbs in the six month on it.

I really like depo, but when I have those uncontrollable days I want off now. With the pill I at least know my period is coming so I can eat for it. With depo I am feeling like the emotions and food cravings are exponentially worse. I am switch back ASAP.

I gained 36 lbs in 6 months while on Depo Provera 4 years ago. I am still struggling trying to get it off. My weight has not gone up but it seems I hit a plateau between 176-180 lbs. I loved not having a period while on it but it was not worth my body.
