Depo Shot and Weight Gain...
Is there anyone that was on the depo shot or that is still on the shot that gained weight? I only received one shot and gained like 12lbs....
omg!!! And I was losing weight just fine until then using c/c. I was suppose to go and get my second shot but I didn't! I don't like the side-effects plus it is really affecting my appetite, really! But now I am in the process of losing my weight again by watching what I eat (tracking calories) and exercising. I just wanted to know if there's anyone else, struggling or recovering from depo shot pounds. Thanks....

My lady gained a lot over her 5 years on depo. She didn't get her last scheduled shot last month and we are still waiting for changes. She did drop 10 lb since she stopped if that helps.
Besides weight, after a few years it castrated her libido which makes me an unhappy hubby.
I gained a little when I started the shot a year ago. But I have since lost it. What depo does is messes with your ability to feel full. And I don't have to mess with the gain from TTOM, so my weight loss is steady. I also find it very convenient and a whole lot cheaper than the pill. So what other side effects didn't you like? The weight gain I dealt with, but that's really it (other than the pain from the shot itself! I hate shots
)
I knew ahead of time that the depo was going to affect my appetite, and was able to monitor what I ate closer, and drank lots of water to avoid the hunger.
Hey Beth...
sabineyvr. The depo is an injectable contraceptive. Depo Provero, or something like that!
elttiks ~x~
Hang in there cstefan - she'll come back to you!!
The worst part was long term side effects of the depo shot caused bone density loss in my hip (where they put it)
I didnt get a period for nearly 6 months after I got off of it, but when I did get it I got my period 2x a month for 6 months.
I would never ever reccomend this form of bc to anyone. You are smart to get off of it. Try the nuvaring. Ive been using it for years with no side effects or problems.
The thing about depo is that its just a huge shot of progesterone, which is the hormone that tells your body its pregnant. When your body thinks its pregnant, you don't ovulate. Bad thing about that is, your body thinks its pregnant and you get some of those side effects. Such as irritability, mood swings, water retention, nausea, and in your case increased appetite, which causes weight gain. Your body thinks its trying to support a baby. I myself had crazy side effects but didn't gain weight, and I was on it for 3 years. Everyone is different.
Sounds like a shot I'd like to stay away from after reading the posts above.
I got my first shot in August. I have not gained- I've lost 2 pounds per week pretty steadily since then. :-)
It has (however) done a number on my sex drive- so, I don't think I'll be getting the second one in November!
BREAK THROUGH BLEEDING, IF THAT'S WHAT THEY CALL IT......
I had it for 9 months, everyday. Whether light or not, it was there and it sucked. I've read a lot of bad things about it, I chose not to get it again and so did someone else I know.
