Quote  |  Reply
I am currently 190 lbs' 5'8 and in a size 16 :(

I have been 140 lbs before and would love to get back that way.

Ive been on here a month and lost 10 lbs.

I feel like Im not doing things right though.  When I put my food in here, its always c, c+, c-

I am eating 800 cals a day, and every meal no more than 15g of fat. (on the alli pill, calls for no more than 15g per meal)

I dunno what to do...people say I need to eat more ect, but I am NOT very active and Im a poor college girl wih no money for a gym membership.

Anyone have any guidance for me?

Maybe post what you eat and that will help us help u.
Always remember any exercise is good exercise.  Walking around your room for 20 min. burns about 100 calories.   Tighten you but and abs during the day.  When you pick things up tighten it up!
Im eating the lean cuisine, smart ones ect frozen meals.
If anyone wants to email me any suggestions, feel free.

Anyone out there?  Id love to hear you guys' thoughts.
I like dark green veggies like broccoli or spinach because they are negative calorie and have fiber. I did the 800 - 900 cal a day thing, I gained it right back and thensome as soon as I ate normal. This time I am going to keep my calories at something I can live with so I won't gain it back. I am also on limited funds and feeding a family of 3, so I get the store brand bags of frozen veggies, they are pretty cheap. Also the market we go to has pks of family sized meat 5 for $20. I stopped buying white bread, only whole wheat. Frozen unsweetened peaches or strawberries and sugar free cool whip for those weak moments when I want something sweet. Even the kids like that. I don't eat pasta due to diabeties, but if you can tolerate it it is cheap, low fat, downside is it is carbs. I have a long way to go, but I am making a life style change and want flexibility. I may want a slice of pizza one day, or maybe when my bs is under control something sweet. I know I can do this is I plan my calories well.

You need to be eating way more than 800 calories per day...thats probably where the bad grade is coming from.

Go use the Expenditure tool to see how many calories per day your body burns...you should be eating about 500 less than that number.

The bad grade doesn't have to come from the number of calories in a food item. It can come from sodium levels, sugar levels, cholesterol levels. Frozen ready meals are high in salt and sugar, and low in dietary fibre, which probably contributes to the bad grade.

Porridge oats are cheap, and very nutricious. So is skim milk. Tins of tuna in spring water, tins of salt and sugar reduced baked beans or sweet corn are pretty good, and won't add many calories.
You need more greens and more fruit in your diet.
Are there any PYO farms in the area? Fruit can end up cheaper of you pick your own, not to mention it gives you some decent exercise. A walk around the park, beach, block is free and will help you shift pounds and lift depression.
Bulk buy where you can, and pre-weigh and pack things like rice, frozen veg etc to help you maintain portion control.
Diet on a budget is possible. I do it, and so far i have managed to eat healthy (A- being my lowest grade) and with a wide variety of fruit and veg and protein.
Good luck. Don't give up hope, and leave the Lean Cuisine!!
danyelle, I ALWAYS get a b/b-/b+ when I eat frozen meals like lean cuisine. I think it's because of the very high sodium most of them have and the high sugar. I atually got a better grade one day eating an ENTIRE Totino's party pizza than on the other days had had a 'healthy' lean cuisine.

Try to eat more fresh foods. I know it can be a pain (frozen meals are SSOOO convenient). One of my weight loss goals was to pack my lunch to work everyday. One nice benefit is that I've saved a lot of money :)

For my lunches, I have plenty of protein to fill me up and keep me going, bulk it up with lots of greens, then finish off with some fruit.

Good luck!
I started off with the lean cuisine type dinners..........they are as she says high in sodium but for me it was just a way to trick myself into smaller portions once i quit eating them i kept the little containers they came in and put regular food in them that just fit it so that in itself usually never went over 500cals no matter what i ate cause the dishes are so tiny. That is how i started out now I know I can do this without lil doggie dishes as hubby called them. Sometimes it helps to trick your mind a little though in the beginning.
This is what I eat every day:
Lean meats, chicken, turkey, fish, or seafood
7-9 servings of fruits and veggies
Whole Grains, Beans, Nuts, & Seeds
       &nb sp;          No Processed Foods
       &nb sp;             64-100 oz Water
&nb sp;           24-32 oz Green Tea

I always get an A, and I never have cravings, and am always satisfied.

You do need to eat more because every time you eat your body gears itself up to burn calories to digest the food you just ate. This increases your metabolism. Your minimum should be 1200 calories a day in at least 3 meals regardless of whether you exercise or not.

The more you do this the more you will boost your metabolism. What you are doing now is keeping your metabolism slow because you are eating less that the mimimum.

Don't worry about ratings just try to eat as healthy as possible and believe that when you eat more (at least 1200 calories) you are actually helping yourself lose more than if you starve yourself at 800 calories. Don't cut out carbs because if you tend to get depressed (I do to) cutting carbs will make you more depressed. Count your calories and include carbs. Trust me on that, been there Take care Irene
