Hi all,

I'm 32 and my husband and I want to start a family. I have had two injections of the Deprovera contraceptive. My last injection was on 18th February 2008. Since then I have had only one light period which started on the 10th July 2008. I’m interested in hearing from others who were on the Deprovera injection and find out how long before your period returned to a normal cycle.

um... lol i didnt... i come from very fertile women, i didnt have a chance to have a period lol. But from what i understand that is rare, but most women become preggo within a year (so i would assume normal periods within that time)... just have fun practicing :))

Thanks for replying. I'll just have to be more patient..... and practice moreWink

In the mean time I'm trying to do more exercise and loose some weight...hence why I'm on this website.

for me it was almost exactly a year after i stopped the injection before I got pregnant, but i can't remember when my cycle actually kicked back in.

i've ALWAYS been bad about keeping track of my cycle, since i've been lucky and only had moderate to mild cramping and flow. although not tracking did bring me a surprise to two on occation when caught out and about with no supplies. Embarassed

fortunately for me my luck has continued and i have the good side effects from deprovera (no cycle to deal with) and NONE of the bad! well... maybe some weight gain, but i find that a small price to pay.  lol

good luck!

My last depo shot was in June 2007, had a light period when I missed my shot in september (2007), and then a real period at the end of Jan (2008) one at the end of Feb., and I got pregnant in March this year!  I had been on the shot for four years, so I figure my cycle returned relatively quick.
Good luck!

I was on depo for three years and my dr said i wouldn't get a normal period for a year....he was wrong, only took two months until i was back on track

Congratulations!! You must be due around Christmas. So that’s a year and a half after your last shot. That seems like good going. Its now nearly 7 months since my last shot, so hopefully I won’t have to wait too much longer. My breasts are sore for the last week so I’m hoping that my period is coming or maybe I’m already pregnant!! I have been taking pregnancy tests once a week. The last one was a week ago today and was negative.

Was that two months after your last injection or two months after your next injection would have been due?

Two months after my next injection would have been due.  So the 90 days on it went past and I didn't get the shot again so two months from when I was supposed to get the shot

Yes, I am actually due December 2nd! 28 weeks tomorrow and counting, and I hope you will be soon too! Don't get discouraged either because you will find a lot of people on the internet with bad experiences who could never get pregnant, and while that does happen, it is more likely that people who did get pregnant never bothered to get on the internet and tell everyone they got pregnant after depo.  ( I only say this because I read blogs everyday wanting to get pregnant and thought I never would because of how many people it seemed couldn't get pregnant...)

I hate to give you bad news, but keep in mind that everyone is different.  I only got one shot and then stopped getting the depo shot.  My cycle didn't return for over a year and I finally went to my doctor's office and she gave me a prescription (prometrium) that helped to make my cycle return.

I tried the shot prior to a deployment and I spotted most of the time so when I got back I decided not to get another and the Dr put me on the pill just to get things "flowing" again lol. Haven't TTC yet, (single)

Finally got my period yesterday. My second since my last injection. The first took over 20 weeks to arrive and I just waited nine and a half weeks for my second. Hopefull my cycle will return to nornal soon.

I was on the depo shot and it easily took me a year to get back to normal.  A year and a half almost two I became pregnant....

I've heard that it can take up to a year, maybe longer on the depo shot. I think that's the routine time frame for any contraceptive. 3 months to a year. I've been on Ortho Evera and Implanon.

I became pregnant within a month of letting the shot "run out". Everyone is different!

Your post made me laugh!  I was just telling another member about Deprovera.  I was saying  how I know a few friends who got pregnant on Deprovera!!!  Maybe you are pregnant already or should get back on it to get pregnant!!!!  Lol!

Good luck with starting your family :O)

hi, i am in the same situation, my husband and i are trying to get pregnant. i have been on depo for 4 1/2 years. i had my last shot in june this year. i got my first normal period 3 weeks ago. i have just got another period today, so i think that means that i am getting back to normal.

someone let me know if that means i could get pregnant soon

Here is an update for anyone who is interested. Its been 10 months since my last injection and well I’m still not pregnant.Frown My periods are now coming every 14 days. So since my last injection in February my periods have come after 143, 66, 13, 32, 13, 13, 14 days.

For the past few months I have been charting my temperature etc to see if I’m ovulating and so far I have not. But this month is looking promising as my temperature is less erratic. If i am ovulating it will be during this weekend (my husband has no idea what’s coming his way).

Anyway thanks for all the support. If anyone is in the same situation as me Id love to hear from you.

Hey, I just read your orginial post and I have a little experience with the shot. I only got 3 shots total. My first was in August 2003, second in November and the third in February which would have made my fourth due in May. I got off of it because it made me really fat and depressed.

It took me about 9 months to get back to normal. During the summer I was having a period every two weeks, and then after that they were coming every 35 days or so. It was three more years later that I got pregnant, so I don't know when I totally recovered from it.

I used some homeopathic remedies that summer to get my hormones back to normal. Unfortunately I don't remember what they were called, but they definitely helped space the periods out longer than two weeks! Go to your local health food store, and maybe the people working there could give you some advice on what to try.

First, just to clarify so we're all talking about the same thing, it's "Depo Provera" not "Deprovera" right?

Anyway, I was on it for over 8 years and had basically no side effects eccept I stopped getting my period. Then I went off of it for about 2 years but never got my period back except for maybe one time for 1 day. I decided to go back on it again because I found it so easy and like not having my period. But, I do not at this point know if I could even concieve a child if I wanted to.

I think it may have thrown me into early menapause and I'm only 36. But since I do not currently want to get pregnant I just decided to keep taking it. I was paranoid about getting pregnant when i wasn't on it since I didn't have a regular period.
