Hi all,

I'm 32 and my husband and I want to start a family. I have had two injections of the Deprovera contraceptive. My last injection was on 18th February 2008. Since then I have had only one light period which started on the 10th July 2008. I’m interested in hearing from others who were on the Deprovera injection and find out how long before your period returned to a normal cycle.

The reason I stopped taking the injection was because it causes osteoporisis (brittle bones). Around the same time I decided that it was time to start a family.

It took me over a year and a half to get pregnant. I stopped the shot in June of 2006 and finally got pregnant in February of 2008. Now I have a handsome 2 month old son :)

Hi guys,

I'm very new to the injection, have been on the pill for over 8 years and it worked wonders, but then I moved to a different country and I wasn't able to get my pill anymore and I thought about the injection.

So off I went and got it and was great - no mood swings, no weight gain except that I was spotting for the last month solidly. Made me wonder if I should go back onto the pill.

So went to the gyni and she recommened that I change. She said that the second injection will prob sort it out but why take the chance. My first injection was Oct 2008 and was meant to get my next injection now on the 30th of Dec 2008. Where now cause I am changing, I would be taking my next active pill on the 30th instead of the injection.

My worry is that I have met a wonderful guy, things going really well and well...ya know :) But scared that I'm now not protected??
Even though I have read up all I can and the general consensus is that you are not fertile for quite some time, some less then others as I have seen here (1 month)
Should I be extra careful? Am I still protected?

Not sure if i should have started another thread - but everyone here is really aware of what is going on. And I feel safe asking you guys.
Thank you so much

They can only guarantee that you are fully protected for 12 weeks after you take the injection as everyone is different. It can mess up your system for over a year afterwards, like its doing to me but other people have gotten pregnant in the first month after their next injection was due i.e. 16 weeks after their last injection. Anyway my advice would be to use other contraception products until you are protected by your new pill as I think you have to be taking the pill for a month before you are protected.

Best of luck

Kar

no matter how wonderful this guy is i'd suggest going with condemns for a while regardless of your shot/pill situation. in this day and age ya just never know.

I realize this is an old thread, but i wanted to say that it can take YEARS for your cycle to return.  My sister was one of those cases, she didn't ovulate for nearly 6 years. Needless to say she had one period during that six years...the very next cycle she became pregnant.

I hope you do become pregnant as planned.  Have you considered "Lunaception".  you may want to google that term, its a way of "tricking your body into ovulating with light."

I personally never took the shot, nor do I ever want to.  I had two years on the pill and never see myself ever taking artficial hormones again.  I chart and use a Diaphragm.  Its not always the easiest thing to do...but its certainly beats the weird things that happens to ones body while taking hormones.

Good luck.

Denise
