Desperately need motivation

Quote  |  Reply

I have been a memeber since November and lost 8 pounds (an average of 1 lb per week). I was happy about it until I lost control...and gained 4 pounds back again (in two weeks :(). I must tell you that the last couple of days have been extremely hectic and I have lost all motivation and hope. After weighing myself today and seeing the scale go back up I am terribly upset and have decided that I cannot let things go as they are. I badly need to lose weight.... I am at my highest weight of 146 lbs and am 5' 3" (need to get to 127 lbs). Please help me keep motivated......PLEASE.....

I can see by what you have written that you are passionate about losing the weight. The great news is, your still 4 pounds closer to your desired weight than when you started.  Don’t let this minor setback detour you from what you want to achieve.  Consider giving back the 4 lbs. a lesson on what to avoid the next time life becomes hectic. Setbacks can have value, if we learn from them. Put it behind you, set your sights on that image of you at 127 lbs., reaffirm your resolve, and press on. You can do it!

Thanks a lot kerryks.... it does help a lot to get such a motivating note ... you are right! Its no use moping about what has happened. I can learn a lesson from my setback and resolve to keep my routine in tact however hectic life gets.... Oh! I can let my imagination run as to the sights of myself  at 127 lbs.... Its so fascinating even to think about it!!! I should not lose hope and give up in frustration. Thanks again!

I'd look at it this way .... if you were out in your car today, went too fast through a speed camera and got a ticket what would you do?  Would you get upset with yourself and keep on speeding?   Pay the fine and give up driving altogether in a fit of pique?   Or would you get back in your car, look at the speedo more often, give yourself more time to get to your destination, be more aware of speed cameras.... and resolve to do your best not to get caught again?   I'm guessing the latter.

Everyone slips up and getting upset achieves nothing.  Engineering things so that you give yourself a better chance of avoiding making the same mistakes is much more constructive.   For most of us life is always and will always be 'hectic'.... work out a way to eat healthily, watch your portions and get exercise with 'hectic' as the default setting and, when life is less hectic, you'll find things a positive breeze.

You are doing fine, we all have setbacks and issues with motivation from time to time. The key is to never give up on yourself. There will be times that you weight loss will seem to stop or that you even gain some weight. The best thing to do is to keep a food journal so that you can see what you are eating and when, make some small adjustments and you will be back on track. Keep exercising and your head up. with a little effort you will be at your goal before you know it.

I know how you feel. Over the holidays I gained 4-5 pounds and it was incredibly discouraging. The best thing you can do is keep your goals in mind and get back on track. I was pleasantly surprised to find that in my first two days back to eating healthy and exercising I dropped 2 pounds!

So definitely keep going!

It took me a year to lose 30 lbs and i still have 80 to go.  but, if i had given up because it was going too slow, i'd probably be 30 lbs heavier instead of lighter.

never give up.  thats the only way to ensure failure.

I gained 8 pounds over the holidays so I feel your pain.  I've already been mad at myself and now I'm moving on and have gotten back on track.  I'm now counting calories again and exercising everyday.  Be hard on yourself but not too hard.  So we gained the weight, we know how to lose it again.  Plus the holidays were good for me so I'm happy I relaxed for a couple of months.  I'm currently at 148 and my goal is 130 and I'm 5'4'' so we are close in goals.  Good Luck to you on getting back into the swing of it.

Hey, thank you for your original posting because I think so many of us relate to how you are feeling! I have been really discouraged this week too because I was doing so well for a few weeks and now I feel like a failure because I have not beeing doing well at all in the past few days. I had a family emergency come up and between driving to and from the hospital, I ended up eating a bunch of crap and not being able to make time for workouts. I haven't stepped on a scale but I know i am going to have gained. It's so frustrating because it takes SO long to lose a pound, but only like a split second to put it back on! I just get scared that I am going to repeat this kind of cycle forever :( I am encouraged by what everyone is saying though. I guess I need to just look forward instead of backwards, but that is hard to do sometimes!

Thank you everybody for the support. Yes I do need to keep myself on track hawever life is and as far as I can understand it is always going to be hectic. So I better resolve to remain committed and motivated to my weight loss goals however slow it may seem.

So, now I am back again to using CC to its fullest logging in all my food journal and jotting down the activities performed during the day. It is good to see that I am exercising at least 30 mins each day and am amazed to see the deficit to be around 500 cals. Just need to keep it up....

Thanks again everybody for sharing your feelings and thoughts with me!!
