DETERMINED
Im 42 fixing to be 43 Nov. 11th (Female) 5' 7" tall. I have 3 children that I love very much. My journey on my weight loss started July 20th 2009. Yep I decided that it was going to happen this time. Without diet pills and supplements. I do take a b-Complex vitamin though. My starting weight was 194 lbs on July 20th I started working out on the elliptical machine Mon thur Fri EVERYDAY...Then on the weekends my kids run cross country races for High School and I do alot of running cheering them on. Sundays are usually my rest day. Tomorrow will be 11week none stop workout Mon-Fri oh yeah I workout most days twice a day.. Ive lost 10 lbs so far. Yeah its a little slow but at least its coming off right. Im trying not to get discouraged because it is hard sometimes to keep going. Like today I feel really bad and my body hurts all over but im going to give it all I have to get a workout in. I eat 1200 to 1600 calories a day. If I get hungry I try to keep healthy snacks around to grab...I do cheat on the weekends...Eat pretty much what I want...Im sure that keeps we losing slow but at least I im not craving all those foods that i love. OH yeah it took about 4-5 weeks of working out for the weight to start coming off but I stayed with it and now its coming off 1 -2 lbs a week. My last weigh in was 9/25/2009 and I was at 184 lbs ... Weigh Day On Fridays....Guess that enough for now bbl
Congrats on the 10 pound weight loss. I think it is fantastic that you are taking it off slowly as it is more likely to stay off. I have similar stats, 41, 5'6", 155 pounds. I started at 226 UGH!

Dear Dreamy42
I am abt your height, and in my late 30's. I have a similar story, after I started exercising, it took me a few months to see weight loss. For me I think it was because my stamina was so poor that it took a while for me to achieve a significant burn. Anyway, once the weight did start coming off, it has stayed an average of 1-1.5 pound loss a week.
I just wanted to encourage you to keep at it, 10 pounds from when you started exercising may not seem to be much, but here's how I keep myself motivated. Find something in the house that weighs 10 pounds. Look at it, heft it a few times, and say "I LOST THIS!" For me, it was carrying by baby niece at about 7 pounds. It felt like a turning point for me!
It sounds like you exclusively focus on cardio. Maybe now that exercising is a routine, you might want to think about substituting some of those 5 sessions with strength training. Strength training is useful for women in our age range because it is weight - bearing exercise, and that strengthens bones and acts as a preventive for osteoporosis. Also, stronger muscles will support your joints better, and protect against certain knee injuries, for example, that come from heavy use such as ellipticals and running. Improved muscle tone looks better, and it helps me to loose inches too. The last benefit is that muscles at rest consume more energy, leading to a slightly better overall burn rate.
In the workout center on this website, there are lots of instructions for strength training and workout programs.
All the best for the weight loss!
