Detox at the beginning? Advice please...

Quote  |  Reply

Hello...

Hoping for some advice here.  I started yesterday on a 1350 calorie diet.  I am 5'1, 170 lb, 30 years old (female), and I also had a serious work out at the gym yesterday.  I will be skipping heavy exercise today as I hurt ... lol... but am going to lower my caloric intake.

Question... does the initial start up cause detoxification side effects?  I noticed that I feel tired, and have a headache today.  My previous caloric intake was probably really high - I'm guessing over 3000.  Undecided

Thanks,

N

You might be feeling that way because your deficit might be too large considering what you ate and your gym workout.

Hi and welcome!  Our specs are close - I'm female, 5'1", 188, 32 years old.

I've been here a little over a month, and I'm sure you'll get more helpful answers, but I can testify that that first week of reduced caloric intake was a doozy for me.  Lethargy, grumpiness... not fun.  It went away in about 5 days.

Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water.  On days that I get caught up in work and don't drink as much, I get tired and have a headache.  Also helps with hunger as sometimes when you think you are hungry you are just thirsty.

Try water.  The change in nutrition can cause you to feel different.  Less simple carbs will make you moody.  Stick with it and you will feel good in a couple weeks, better than you have felt in a long time.  Research carbohydrate indexs.  Also remember water water water.

Good luck

I'd always suggest that the first week shouldn't be a drastic reduction in calories for precisely the reason that it can take a few days to get used to different foods.   If you'd gone with 1700-1900 for the first week you'd have probably still felt a little strange but it wouldn't be compounded by your blood-sugars crashing due to lack of energy. So do have a light snack if you feel this way again tomorrow.   Some oatcakes and a banana, for example.

If you're going to be doing serious workouts on a regular basis you'll need more like 1500-1700 ongoing.  And, as everyone says, drink lots of water/
