With them or because of them?

I am on a 30 day frutose detox diet right now (Natural Health, March 2009). I am having a lot of success on it. No cravings and more energy. I'm on day 8 as of today.

Detoxes aren't for losing weight. They are for cleaning out your system. Which is ridiculous, because your liver and kidneys do that just fine (unless they don't - then see a doctor).

In other words - won't help you lose weight (except an initial loss of water weight, plus less food in your belly than you normally have) and won't help "clean you out" any more than a sensible diet of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats.

detox diets are rubbish.. your body will "clean" itself if you eat right and drink water.

I am not doing a "detox" diet to "clean out". I'm doing it to rid myself of cravings and side effects from eating processed foods.

Perhaps a clarification on what detox can mean - if it means cutting out something like processed foods and things with high fructose syrup, etc (essentially clean eating), then it's good.

If it means only drinking lemonade/cayenne pepper/maple syrup concoctions or only eating fruits for a week or something similarly unhealthy, no, it's not good.

From what I found online, it sounds like sherea is doing the former. But when people use the word detox, they usually mean the latter (or drug/alcohol, but that's a different forum)

alrightyy well thanks somewhatt,

i heard ayou will be losing a lot of fat because youre getting rid of the toxins that your liver has and then your body can process everything better. so i think im not going to go on some crazy diet but in a way a more of a life style change. like mostly eating fruits and vegtables. cutting out soda and fast food. i remember i did this when i was way younger when my grandpa wanted to get healthier i did this with him and i got a lot skinnier, because i also worked out almost everyday since i did karate back then.

I assume that you are a teen, so you need to make sure you dont' eat too little - the minimum for a female teen is 1500. Higher, depending on size and activity.

Fruits and vegetables are good, but so are whole grains, meat, nuts, dairy, etc. Don't eliminate food groups without good reason. Cutting out soda and fast food is always a good thing, but cutting out whole foods is not.

detox diets are wrong-thinking hippie crap Wink

seriously though... your body detoxes just fine... give it the right fuel and it will do the job.

I used a program called Isagenix to lose 25+ lbs and it is touted as a detox or cleansing diet, and I do give some weight to the detox effect especially on cravings, etc.  But ultimately the program resulted in weight loss because of the calorie restriction.  The cleansing portion of the program was helpful in a variety of ways, so I wouldn't dismiss it as completely usless as a lot of these other posters have suggested.

To each their own!  Good luck to you!

I'm drinking a detox tea called Wholy tea.

It's supposed to help with my digestion, colon and liver.  I think it is starting to help with getting rid of some of the build up in my digestive system.  As for the liver, I really don't know what to look for.

My palms are not red and blotchy like they used to be.  However I am also some substances I used to be on.

btw: Has anyone here every heard of or used this Wholy Tea themselves?  Let me know,OK?
