Do you have reason to believe that you're toxic? If not I don't see what the point of a 'detox' would be (Not to mention that no commercial detox products do anything beneficial at all).

There is no reason that you need to detoxify your body, unless there is a problem with your kidneys and liver, in which case medical attention would be more useful.

People lose a bunch of water weight on those, but they do nothing for fat loss. If long term health is your goal, stick to eating a reasonable amound of healthy, whole foods, and moving more.

How are you planning on detoxing?  I am hooked on juicing and have to say I don't feel hungry and have more energy than ever!  Even if you just replaced one meal with a juice (mixing fruit and veggies works best), I am sure you will do your body good.

It depends on what you mean by detox. If you are talking about anything that involves taking pills, fasting, or drinking special tea, it is my opinion that it is all a waste of time and money (at best) and potentially dangerous (at worst). On the other hand, if you are talking about eating organic and/or minimally processed food and avoiding artificial ingredients, that can be extremely beneficial for weight loss and overall health.

As for cleansing, I assume you are talking about "colon cleansing." As long as you are getting enough water and fiber in your diet and don't feel constipated, your colon is cleansing itself just fine.

I don't put anything in my body I don't want in there. Eating whole grains, fruit vegetables and unprocessed meat is what i was built for. The few days where I eat MSG or drink a bit much aren't good for me but my kidney and liver know what to do to fix that. I haven't eaten any poisons or gorged on mercury as far as I'm aware what toxins would I want to get rid of?

i think its just a marketing ploy by people who want to sell you something

Try drinking a tea made from roasted Dandelion Root and add Dandelion leaves to your salads or sandwiches. No kidding. I've just discovered this plant as a healthy addition and it's doing wonders!

Dandelion Root is excellent for the liver and kidneys, and also acts as a mild laxative (which is why it should only be used for short periods of time). Dandelion leaf is a great source of Vitamin A and Potassium and works as a mild diuretic, so you'll pee more. Also, no negative side affects have been found from adding dandelion to the diet...and its been used for years and years and years.

Eat your normal amount of calories from clean and healthy food, and add dandelion root tea for a couple weeks. Every once in a while, eat some of the leaves.

There ya go. Natural assistance to your "filters" without messing things up by suffering through a wonky, false advertised trend.

Saw this in the 'Recent Topics' box and knew Sully and Amethyst would be here.

They know their **** about this, listen to them. Detox is a **** joke. Eat real food and treat your body well. <3

detoxing fad diets are a waste of time (and money if you're buying special products for it). my personal colon cleansing method: drinking unfiltered apple juice (regular is okay too).

i read about a "cleanse" where you ONLY drink unfiltered apple juice and water all day, but screw that. just drinking it along with the rest of my food works wonders (TMI? possibly.) i do really want my own juicer though.

bodies are made to expell "toxins." if you eat a healthy balanced diet (get enough fiber, drink enough water, etc), then you should have no problems.
as far as using it for weight loss, the effects won't be longterm...not to mention that you'll be crabby and irritable the whole duration of the "detox" (most likely)

I've done cleanses before, did Isagenix for a while and did see results.  Went from 140 to 126lbs (did it for about 90days), however with their system as much as I love their shakes/meal replacements is it's pricy and there is one day a week you have to cleanse they have an aloe juice berry flavored which is very good compared to just aloe juice.  In their program you replace two meals with the shakes and have a good lunch/dinner of around 400-600 calories.  After a while of doing this, I just couldn't live that life. I like food! (the weekly cleanses were very helpful though, because it flushed out toxins and did experience headaches from it, that feeling after getting a massage.)  I've tried alot of things, did the Lemon & Maple syrup cleanse too, for 7 days and it was unbearable the first two days, after it got easier.  With this 7 day cleanse of not having food in my system I did not experience any weight loss.  Instead I really think it set me back, it slowed my metabolism down.  I would not recommend it. I finally feel that I'm back to normal.

Today, I would rather eat healthier foods without all the crap that they put in them, eat smaller meals (we are now using our salad plates instead), and work out more.  As my husband says to me all the time, "It's simple honey move more eat less".

Hi am124,

You have found a small miracle what could help people lose weight ...

I agree that most health problems, such as weight loss needfulness is connected with your colon status.

If you are interested to study more about that problem, perhaps helpful article you can read about that is for Ex. here :

colon cleanse info

bellyfatboy, I think it is against posting regulations to push your own website in the forums. You can link to it on your profile if you wish. Also, I do not agree that being overweight is a colon problem. For the vast majority of people, it is an "eating too much" problem.

From now on I am going to think of myself as having "weight loss needfulness." That is possibly the funniest way of saying overweight I have ever heard.

exactly. saw a nice article on that (not on the web sadly) - the author asked several doctors and all of them said that detoxes are just a waste of time and money, and some, such as colon things, are dangerous.

no the body does not detox. the only "bad" things staying in it are heavy metals, and no detox can get rid of these.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all your input and some very interesting opinions the reason why i asked the question was because i try and do yoga and you can imagine i am overweight and find it hard to do yoga but i try anyway  my yoga teacher said that to lose weight, i should try detoxification now i have looked at various detox methods and i am no way starving myself and the method i am using i have lost 7ilbs already which is great for me as i have always struggled to lose weight YIppee i am 7 pounds lighter.

I am very happy to hear all your opinions
