Detoxification - opinions please

Quote  |  Reply
I've been thinking about detox diets lately. A suffer seasonal allergies each year, so the thought of avoiding them is really nice. Besides, it would be nice to think that I am doing good things for my body besides what I am currently doing.

I found a sample detox diet on about.com. It looks very healthy and really isn't that remarkably different than what I eat now, except that I don't eat nut butter very often (maybe once or twice per week) and I eat chicken a few times each week and red meat once each week.

What I am wondering about is the caloric content of this diet. Is it adequate? I could punch it all into the computer and count up the calories, but I wondered what y'all thought of it. Has anyone done a detox diet?

It doesn't seem to be a harmful diet, but maybe there are not enough calories.  I don't understand what it's supposed to do.

As far as I know the best foods to get rid of contaminants in the bloodstream are those high in antioxidents, like broccoli and carrots.  Foods high in Omega 3 fatty acids are also helpful.  But those things aren't on this diet.
Calorie-Wise, it does seem low, and you're likely to fill yourself up but never eat too badly calorie-wise. Also, not much protein or fat. Both are important and will keep you full longer.

I'm not, in general, a fan of Detoxification Diets because the only toxics I tend to believe in are extra chemicals in processed foods such as HFCS and trans-fat.

Drinking Yogi Detox Tea and lots of water with a diet rich in Flax Seed either ground or oil in caps is a good way to detox according to my allergy homeopath.

I have severe environmental and chemical allergies and have just begun to recover from one that began on Saturday morning. UGH! I am a mess right now and still feeling like crap.

So I am detoxing AGAIN...lately it seems constantly...and I sip the Master Cleanse off and on, as well:

Enough freshly-boiled water to fill your teacup or mug
1 tablespoon real maple syrup
Freshly-squeezed juice of half a lemon
Cayenne pepper to taste Simply stir ingredients together in your mug or cup. Be careful with the cayenne: a little goes a long way.
I was wondering...How can you tell the difference between your body detoxing, and really being sick?
