Devastated and Can't Eat

Quote  |  Reply

I had something really devastating happen to me this morning (earth shattering detestation) and I can't eat. My stomach is aching and (sorry for TMI) but bowls are in overdrive.

I don't want to make myself sick but I can't put anything in my mouth without feeling like I'm going to be sick.. and I know one day probably won't kill me but I don't want to kill my metabolism but I can't see me getting my appetite back any time soon..

I guess I'm crying for help.. Would it be terrible if I get my calories from juice for a couple of days?

The western culture is so used to thinking that the body and mind are seperate entities, when really they rely on each other so much. I'm sorry for your devastation. Take care of your soul first, the body will follow. Drink juice. Sounds like the problem is more important than your calories for the day.

No, it wouldn't be terrible. Do what you need to do to take care of yourself emotionally and put worries about weight and all that away.
get down what ever you can manage. a few days isn't going to ruin your metabolism. i hope you are ok! hang in there!

Just worry about not getting sick for the next few days. make sure you are eating so you don't get sick or faint. I hope everything is ok...::hugs::

Try eating something easy on the stomach like crackers. Sometimes severe hunger will actually make you feel MORE sick. Not eating will only make you feel even worse.

If you really cannot eat anything for now, don't. But don't anticipate not eating anything for days at a time..keep attempting to eat.

If will be easier to cope with whatever stress you are dealing with if you have fuel in your system. I'm sorry for whatever happened that made you feel this horrible.

If you must drink only liquid, drink milk too, or something else with protein.

Thank you guys.. I know it seems silly to turn to strangers on the internet but I feel so isolated and alone and this has become sort of a safe haven for me this past month. I'm not sure how I'm going to do it, but eventually I have to be okay, if not for me than for my kids. I just don't know how I'm going to do it right now...

Thank you guys!

By all means, guzzle juice for the next couple of days.  It will make you use the toilet more, but it's better than being sick and having 0 calories in you.  You'll be fine.

I also had something horrendous happen over the weekend and was completely unable to eat, I sympathise completely.

Try drinking a milk shake made with frozen yogurt or a frozen fruit smoothie. Those feel great on an already upset stomach and may even offer a little smile because they're comfort "foods" (especially the milk shake). Warm soup is also very comforting and easy on the stomach. Sometimes the effort of chewing is what's making you not feel like eating so try some things that don't require chewing.

Sorry to hear about your troubles and I hope things look up for you soon.

It's not silly at all. I've found a lot of my favorite friends from the internet, and I'm living with my bf of almost two years, whom I met on the internet.

The net is simply a way to connect with amazing people you may never have had the chance to otherwise.

I hope you feel better, and know that we're here (and I'm always available should you need someone to talk to) to help support you through whatever tough times happen.

Crackers, semi-flat soda, juice, and if possible, some soup. I find salty things help me when I'm sick. -hugs- Feel better.

{{{{maryjmoon}}}} I am so sorry you got really bad news. Don't worry about calories or anything just try to get some nourishment into you one way or the other in any form you can. Take care of yourself and take it easy. Let us know if we can help. Frown

I am sorry for whatever has happened to you.

Tea with honey and lemon can be soothing and it has calories from the honey.

I am sorry for whatever has happened in your life.

Sugar, feeling guilty about your food is only going to make your emotional stress worse. Give yourself some time to recoup and go at it again when you're better. This is very common and completely understandable. Just be careful not to let it get too bad.

I agree with nasuoni, it's not silly to turn to strangers (I met my husband of 5 years online by accident). They give unbias opinions and the caring human soul transmits via email as well as in person. Don't forget that the way you meet friends isn't nearly as important as the relationship you build with them and the support you offer one another. That's part of why these type of sites are so successful, mutual support.
