I had some results back in January saying my glucose level was barely in the "impared" range (prediabetic). I looked back at results from 2 years ago and I was at the same number but they redefined the range that is "impaired". I was thinking this number will be hard to budge since my diet and life style really isn't that bad. From January-early April my diet and life style were slightly worse than normal (my fience was in a motorcycle accident and I was depressed. He's better now :D). For the last few weeks I've gotten back on track, eating better and exerciseing and had a test done again. My glucose level is normal, not just by a point or two, but 17 points lower! I'm happy and feeling encouraged to keep up the healthy life style but I'm wondering how/why gluclose levels are so easily changed eventhough my diet hasn't been spectacular since the previous tests. Any thoughts?

Well, this was only blood sugar at one time on one day. Not to be a downer, but even diabetics have "normal" days where their glucose levels are okay. If you had the prediabetic reading once, I would continue getting checked occasionally just to be safe, diabtees is not something you want to mess with. (P.S. Glad your boyfriend is better- I had a really good friend in the ICU for 3 months from a motorcycle accident, i understand how that can be!)
Thanks! I hope your friend is better and drives 4 wheeled vehicles now.
All 3 tests were done after 12 hours of fasting. So first two where impaired and this last one was normal. I didn't know diabetics can have normal days. I'll keep checking it every so often.

Hi :)
There is a 90 day lookback test called an A1C that they can do that can tell what your # averages are over the last 90 days. That is the one that tells more of the real story.
the 2nd line test is where you fast for 12 hours overnight and they take your blood sugar test, and it sounds like this is the one you have...
and a 3rd line test where they have you take a sugar substance periodically and see how your body is responding...
For many people, diet and exercise can prevent or delay or even reverse diabetic symptoms, but you must continue to do it or it will come back and eventually get worse...
so, gr8 job!!! Congrats to you & keep up the gr8 work :)
Cheers,

very helpful, THANK YOU :D
There are so many things that can afect a blood sugar test like that - right down to the place they drew the blood at. Also, when you or your body (a cold or allergies even) are under stress, your liver releases sugar into your blood stream.
It is a great that it is down. I am asuming that you haven't been officially diagnosed with diabetes - just pre-diabetic? Now is the time to keep those numbers down. Excercise is the best thing you can do for yourself, and if you are overweight - loose 10% of your weight.

I have been diabetic for 9 years now and there are so many factors that go into a days worth of readings. Stress, Eating habits, level of activity and yes, even the amount of fluid you drink. (believe that one or not) If your sugars are high, and you drink alot you are essentially at some point washing the sugar out of your kidneys. This can create problems in the future if you continue on with high sugars called Nephropathy. Disease of the kidney. So keep a watchful eye on your sugars.
If you are diagnosed with gestional diabetes during pregnancy you are 85% sure to get it sometime in your life time. SO keep a watchful eye and I mean watchful. This is one hard disease to deal with and it changes your entire lifestyle, affecting family too.
I was gestional and had a 9 lb 2 oz boy. Weights of babies over 9 lbs are precursors for diabetes in the future. As far as being gestional, you should after delivery (3 months) have the H1ABC blood test. This will be the determining factor if you are at the stage right away preventing future complications. I wish I would have had this done but this was just a scientific breakthrough in the last 2 years. My son is now 19.
Good luck and if you have questions about diabetes. I am sure I could offer some experienced advice.
