Diabetic & Determined to Get This Under Control!! Just Need Your Support
Hey friends! So let me introduce myself to the community. I am by no means new to CC but am new to the Community. My name is Beatrice - but please let's keep it formal - call me Bea. I am 29 yrs old - soon to be 30 in the next couple of days - YAY for me?! And well I've reached a point in my life that I HAVE TO take care of myself.
I've been a Diabetic now for almost 4 years - and well this weekend it really got the best of me. I was rushed to the hospital for severe dehydration and uncontrolled blood sugars. But worse than that - after my 4 day stay at the hospital - Doctors have decided that I am suffering from Early Renal Failure. As you all can guess this is not good news.
So here I am - knowing I NEED to get this all under control - and need some support and advice. Just wondering if there are any Diabetics (even if you're not Diabetic) out there that have some suggestions at where I should start?? Please help!!
Thanks Again!!

my last blood tests showed I was pre diabetic. That scared me. I would start with a nutritionist. Since you have health needs you should have a suprevised plan. You can do this. I promise you! Since it is type 2, when you lose weight, it could be well under control! The body is amazing at repairing itself so you can do this! We are here!
Check this site on, I have a friend who uses it's tips a lot and finds it very helpful in weight loss and control for her diabetes.
I have had diabetes for 2 years now. I am struggiling to get it under control as well. I'm 32 years old and am determined to get it under control. Want to do it together? We can help eachother! :-)
When I was pre diabetic I was able to nip it in the bud by following the "Type 2 Diabetes Diet Book".. it was very easy to follow and written by the same drs who have the 8 week cholesterol cure book on the market but the one I used is harder to find but I have seen it on amazon
I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, probably had it before then as I was about 50 lbs heavier before I got pregnant but the docs never tested me for it (I weighed 310 at one point... looking back I know they should have tested me). After my son was born they didn't test me again for about 4 years. That is when I found out I was Type II, and it was weight related. On meds for about a year (Glucovance) but those made me sick all the time, so I quit taking them. I managed just through diet for quite a while. Then one summer weekend in 2006 I had WAY too much to drink/eat and made myself really sick. I got a UTI and when I went in they told me that there was so much sugar in my urine it was like juice. My A1C was at 7.0 They gave me a month to get it under control on my own or it was back on meds. At the end of that month I was down to 5.5 on the A1C.
Well, I have not been on meds yet for it, so I am managing it completely with diet. I have my good days and bad, and losing weight and going to the gym 3-5 days a week for 2 hours at a time are certainly helping.
I just wanted you to know that it is possible to get yourself back on track. Keep people posted and try to remember that there is support here from folks who have been in your shoes.
