diarrhea and constipation in one!? (read at own risk! :P)

Quote  |  Reply

Hey guys! :)

I have a question:
Kay, this is kinda embarrassing and gross, but I'm pretty confused and kinda worried.. So sometimes my stomach makes all these weird growling, bubbly sounds, and is all like::: I dunno, moving, and it feels like there's a lot of air in it. Then the next day or so; it's so weird. It kinda feels like I need to poo, so I go sit on the toilet, and all I do is fart! A lot. And it feels like I'm like constipated, but I bit of diarrhea comes out. I told my mom I have diarrhea and constipation in one, but she's like that's impossible. But I dunno what's wrong with me? And it hurts my stomach like HECK too! I've also been burping quite a bit too today, which I don't normally....

But yeah, I've had it today; and yesterday my stomach was doing all that weird growly, moving stuff, it mostly lasts for a couple of days.. so I'm literally knocking on wood about tomorrow!

I've had it maybe 3 or 4 times in the past 2 months or so, I just ignored it before, hoping it would just go away on it's own, but it keeps coming back?

What's wronge?

Im struggling with diarrhea too... My doctors say its caused by malabsorption, that its something normal in the process of recovery...It confuses me a lot, i feel like everything passes over me, my organism cannot handle the food I eat, I feel permanently hungry...

If you dont have any other problems, like food allergies, IBS, it could be malabsorption.

oh wow i had a massive attack of something like this similar today. all day i was erm.... really gassy and then when i got home i had a major attack. like couldn't breathe, massive pains in the back and stomach for a whole hour!! it was kind of an anxiety attack for me too just because i couldn't breathe and my thorat was closing up. mum even called the hospital and they told her to make me tea and rub my back.

okay so mines not that similar to you but i do semi know the reason. its because

a) your eating too many products which you may have an intollerance to or

B) its because you have just jumped your calories from something low to something higher.

i had this attack when i first went beyond 2500 calories and a few days ago i went under for a while, my stomach was really bloated and i felt horrible so now that im eating what i should to gain my stomach is catching up and more gas is being produced. i do have diorrahea at the moment too.. unfortunatley (how weird that i can say this on the internet and its open to everyone).

the gas according to my mum is acid reflux but i just looked up the definition and im not sure. the doctors i think said it could be (all over the phone by the way). anyway hope you get better and don't let it scare you as it is widely common to get extreme gassy in weight gain. have you been burping alot too because i have... soo much gas!!!! it is truly gross!

It's possible you have severe constipation (I'm a carer so I've dealt with this before btw) and the diarrhea is the liquid that manages to pass the solid stool in the bowel.

The other possibility is that your body is adjusting to the amount of nutrients you are now eating and is having a hard time digesting fats and fiber properly, resulting in constipation from the fiber and diarrhea from the semi digested fat.

Either way I would see your doctor and explain your symptoms, he can give you something to help.

Good luck!

wow, that happened to me so much in the first month of my recovery [and it still happens now every few weeks]
I dunno if you have Inner Health Plus availible where you are, but it helped me a bit. [they're those capsules with good bacteria that help digestion, and reduce problems like bloating, constipation etc.]
I also found that it was because I was eating heaps of low-cal foods like veggies & fruit, so by the end of the day I was just so full of food my stomach bloated like crazy. If this is the case, then replacing some of these foods with more calorie dense options like peanut butter etc. might help.

I don't really know if I helped at all, but it happened to me too :s

i suffer with this alot my stomach felt so bubly i went to the doctor he listened to my stomach and he said hed never heard so must gas. he put me on buscopan which helps the bowels to spasm it did help although i still get it sometimes. i found peppermint tea helped ease my stomach . does anyone else suffer with like a sudden urge to go? ill be like ok one minute then i feel like if i dont go im going to have an accident

I have suffered from the same symptoms and determined mine was related to my intollerance for fried/ greasy foods.  My stomach was so bloated earlier this week that I had to take the "d" word.... Dulcolax.  It helped though. Plus drink plenty of water.   I just need to come to the fact that as much as I loved fried chicken and pork chops...they no longer love me!!

Thanks guys, you're reassuring comments helped.. I was pretty freaked out there for a bit!

But I haven't majorly upped my calorie intake lately? Well I did increase it but only by say 200-3000 a day more. And the weird thing is: I'm regular in the mornings first thingh when I get up. Then through the day at school my stomach makes all these weird sounds and I'm so gassy but embarrassed(obviously:P) So I hold it in. Then as soon as I get home, I have to like RUN to the bathroom.

I was thinking it's possibly because I've been trying to eat faster lastely, I'm acctully a really slow chewer, I always have been, but even more so since my ED. So is it maybe I'm swallowing too much air while trying to chew fast? Or how about swallowing air from chewing gum?

think youve hit the nail on the head there the gum could explain alot particarly if its sugar free and contains sorbitol i should try easing off it h x

wait, youre chewing gum?? WHY, HOW??

if youre hungry enough to chew gum then i hope ur eating AT LEAST 2500, if ur still hungry then eat more, dont cover ur hunger w chewing gum!!

I get this a lot.  For me, it happens when I am eating foods my body doesn't tolerate.  I have IBS-constipation and other auto-immune things that I believe are a result of having an ED in highschool.  I screwed my digestive system badly because of that time and now there is a lot of food that literally hurts me to eat.  Things like..most dairy except for swiss cheese because it's lactose free, all grains, all sugar, most fruit and even raw veggies to some extent cause the gurgling.  Eggs and poultry, meats, healthy fats, low starch fruit, cooked veggies and nuts.  Trust me if you stick to a diet like that, plus drink lots of water especially in the morning you will have NO bathroom troubles.

oh and the gum chewing..will most definitely cause bloating and gas!  Maybe even constipate you because of the fake sugars and other fake stuff in it.

I had all kinds of issues right before I found out I couldn't tolerate milk. Soy milk has done wonders.
