Hi all. I have been lurking around for awhile just gathering info. I am 44 5'4" and 155 lbs. I have been on this diet or that diet most of my adult life, Adkin's, South Beach, starvation (this one really sucks!) Tongue out So after reading about different experiences on this site I signed up and started trying to lose pounds the right way. I am eating 1400 calories a day ( or more if I exercise) and I can't believe the results so far. I have lost 5 lbs. this week! I am so excited because I am not even hungry. I am losing more than I have on any other "diet" and I know I can do this forever. I can eat what I want as long as I log it in, and stay within my calorie limit. Thanks all for the info and inspiration. I can't believe it was this easy all along.

Congratulations on the weight loss!  I don't want to get you discouraged, but losing 5 pounds right off the bat, is probably water weight.  Keep within your calorie limits, exercise, and keep about a 500 calorie deficit and you'll probably continue to lose 1-2 pounds week.  Good luck! 

Hey, it definitely works if you follow it.  I really feel that this site has helped me as much as paying to go to Weight Watchers, but a lot cheaper.  Keep up the good work.  I read your profile and I am also into nursing.  I'm an LPN at a Urology clinic, still working towards the RN.  I need one more class (microbiology) before I can bridge into my last two semesters.  Good luck with nursing school, and I hope you love it as much as I do!

Yeah I think it is a lot like weight watchers too, though I never tried WW before, and we don't even have to pay. I know I won't continue to lose 5 lbs a week, but that is okay. I feel healthier already. How do you like nursing Ibenyo? I am a little worried because most nurses I have talked to say it is extremely stressful. Oh well I am tough, lol.

I love nursing even though it can be stressful at times.  It depends on what you go into.  I worked at a nursing home for about a year after I got my license and hated it but have been in urology for 3 1/2 years and love it.  If you work as a CNA it really helps.

I've tried many diets too! I have finally lost 100 lbs.  I have NEVER lost this much before and I haven't been this size since high school!

I am thinking the same thing!  I haven't even been on this site a week yet and already I just LOVE it.  I'm excited about seeing the results I have a long way to go but somehow this feels different!  Even though I have many pounds to lose I just feel as thought in this community seeing others make it work, that I can do it too.  :) I can't believe the site is so wonderful and is free too!!!

Congratulations on your weight loss! I also had that similar thought when i started losing weight. WHY WHY WHY didnt i know it was this easy? I would have done it years ago! I'm down 47 pounds since Jan 27th. It can be done and yes it's easy and you arent hungry! Good Luck!

I've only lost a little over 14lbs but the things I've learnt on here far outweigh (pun not intended lol) the lack of weightloss I'd hoped for. Its gonna be a slow one for me though, I don't keep much of a deficit, only about 200-300 cals.

Since I joined here, I've been motivated to join and actually go to the gym every week; I've had questions answered; and the knowledge that I don't need to worry when I hit a plateau is great! And my food choices are definately healthier. The positivity that just emanates from this site is just what I need to get the last few pounds off.

Congrats,  I was told if you diet and work out that's not water weight you lose the first week but it evens out to fat because you are burning it.  My mom is heavy into this whole weigh loss strategy.   If you just diet that's all water. If you exercise it is some fat.  Either good luck.....  Some people do not loss that in a week!!!

I lost 4.5 lbs in first week and I exercise 60 minutes a night aerobic, walk three miles a day and diet (800cals-1500cals) a day.  I feel great!!!

I can tell you why I didn't try calorie counting earlier.  Because my parents "counted calories" years ago and it was about severe restriction.  No advice about fiber, whole grains, healthy nutrient sources.  So, I always associated diets and calorie counting with that. 

This site is amazing.  I'd say it's free too but I'm buying a lot of exercise toys and clothing that I don't think I would have before.  Wink

I have to agree with you.  This is something easy that I can do and WHYdidn't I do this years ago.

 I  too have yo -yo dieted with all the major diet plans and I have found that they work.  I just get bored very easy.  I stop and the weight comes back.  Sometimes I actually get to the weight I was trying for and then gain it back because I can't maintain it. 

At this point in my life I am finally ready.  I know how to do it and I know how to maintain it.  This is not a "diet" but just the way I eat.  I don't mind writing everything down it keeps me accountable.  I weigh myself everyday and chart it every weight and now I know when I'll gain water weight before I gain it and when I'll lose it again.

It feels good to know there is nothing I can't have to eat.  It's my choice and If I want something caloric dense I just account for it by eating light before and after.

Sorry for the speech.  Good Job on the loss!  Stay motivated it truly is worth the effort to be healthy.
