I joined CC just a week ago, and I can report that I am keeping to my goals so far.  BUT... I often have "diet amnesia" - meaning that I forget my goals for the day, for the forseeable future, for the moment or just before a bite of food lands on my fork.  One of my worst "diet amnesia" moments tends to be when I taste standing and cooking in the kitchen. Does tasting count?

Does anybody else have this problem, and how do you overcome it?

Plan ahead, write it down, keep it handy and then stick to your plan as best you can.  You don't have to be perfect but if you have a structure to work to it's often easier than if you're just making it up as you go along.

Btw... some people can tot up 300 cals-worth of 'tastes' when cooking!   Try to stick to some pieces of raw vegetables or some chopped up fruit :-)

Those are good ideas.  I'll write things down.

When you are cooking put a rubber band around on your wrist.   Not tight yet tight enough that you feel it.  This might help you remember.  It works for me with whatever I need to remember.  From mailing a letter, picking up something at the store, telling someone something, etc...   As you can read, I'm a pretty forgetful person. Embarassed

Also, when you're cooking you could try a piece of gum, or a hard candy.  If you have something like that in your mouth, you won't do the taste testing.

Most of the expertise in cooking comes from your sense of smell and sight (unless you use a lot of salt and sugar, which you should not use anyway). You do not need to taste the food to make a delicious meal.

I suspect that you have been cooking several years and you are probably an "expert."  Just think of it as part of your "expert" status that you do not need to taste the food while you cook it.  If anyone asks you why you do not taste the food while you cook it, just tell them that you are a professional and truly talented professional chefs do not need to sample the food! Great idea.  Yeh.  I'm an expert of sorts, at least people tell me it's one of my stong points.

I am usally between classes in my kitchen at my school, it's not so good to be sucking on candy... but sometimes it might work.

Three Hundred Calories just tasting.  I guess I should change my way of thinking about it to "snacking."  Maybe that will keep me from doing.
