What diet changes must I make after lapband surgery?
Asked by anonymous on Sep 20, 2009 in Health Conditions

What changes will I have to make in my eating style and food choices?

Answer

After surgery, you will move very slowly from liquid to solid food.  Your surgeon will tell you when to progress; it will take several months.  In the beginning, you will take 2-3 tablespoons of liquid at a time, but in a year, you'll eat about one cup of food per sitting.  For the first few months, you'll have to avoid irritants: caffeine, alcohol and citrus juice, but ultimately, you'll be able to eat a high protein diet in three meals a day with liquids in-between meals.  Foods that may always be a problem include meat, doughy bread, peanut butter, raw fruits and vegetables, nuts, popcorn, pasta, rice, and greasy food.  Read What Happens After Adjustable Gastric Lap-Band Surgery at About.com.
