I still have to try this but you guys are making it sound so good.. I dont want all of the extra laying around to tempt me so I have to wait for company!
Somebody told be about this a few years ago but to do this when you go camping over the campfire. and we did like a white cake mix with some kind of fruity soda.. It was a disaster and I could not get the pot clean and I had to throw the pot away. I think its going be much better in a real oven.

you know what i was thinking might work well for this? those different flavored carbonated waters they have, say, at Walmart (and my grocery store). they're about a liter and they come in black cherry and lime and kiwi-strawberry and peach. maybe w/ white cake? they're pretty much the equivalent of diet soda, right?
Ok looks simple to me, Im not a great baker, dont really bake at all actually. But I think I can do this one. Gonna go buy some light whip cream today and test my baking skills, LOL... Let you know how it goes!!
I didn't find it to be too "crumbly" at all. In fact, as hubby and I were eating it last night (for the third night in a row) he asked "Can you make this again when this is gone?"
I want to try some of the other flavor combinations, too.

OH MY ....!!! I'm going out shopping: Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Cherry Diet Dr. Pepper ... whooooaaaa!!! Where have you been all my life?
Ok Bought some cake mix, light whip cream, diet coke... about to make the cake, now how much chocolate cake mix to I need?
natashenka - 1 box cake mix and 1 twelve oz can of diet soda - do not add anything else - mix and bake - follow the directions on the box for temperature and time.
This cake is so good! I made a pan and brought it to work this week. People couldn't believe what it was made of!

Ok so I made the cake YUM YUM!!! for only 180 Cal... How can you go wrong!! totally satisfies your chocolate craving!!!
Made it tonight :D Lemon with Sprite. I didn't end up using the egg whites after all, just went for the can of pop- and it worked great! Everyone was very impressed, they couldn't believe how well it worked, lol. I topped it with fat-free vanilla pudding for a treat (and soft ice cream, but that's not exactly diet-friendly ;D). I definitely recommend this!
making the cake right now -- so excited -- next time I definately doing the cupcakes though -- 24 cup cakes - therefore one would only be 80 calories -- yeah!!! I could add that in any day -- throw on some fat free cool whip and you have about a 100 calorie treat
they have all these generic diet sodas at my grocery store now...strawberry, grape, orange, pineapple (and cola and lemon-lime, of course). i'm thinking the strawberry would be good w/ lemon cake. but MORE so...pineapple soda, pineapple cake, and pineapple rings on top (like upside-down cake, except i don't think this would be a good cake to flip out of the pan. too crumb-y).
Just made vanilla with cream soda. Took it to a potluck lunch.
Everyone LOVED it.

One thing I should mention- eat them fast, haha. After a day or two, they get very sticky and unappealing.
I tried duncan hines butter flavor and grapefruit flavor diet soda. I added 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, and 1/2 tsp nutmeg.
it was deliscious. It was very crumbly to cut. Don't know if that was because I didn't wait for it too cool or not.
love, Karen

I also found it crumbly to cut..Maybe I didnt wait long enough either..but who could??
I made a devils food cake tonight with a diet coke. Hubby liked it! the only problem that we have is its just the two of us. I cut it into 20 pcs so it made it around 104 calories a silce. It was very crumbly to cut... my question is wht do I do with the rest of it??? we wont eat it that fast. I think I'm gonna get some cupcake liners and do cupcakes next time and put the extras in the freezer and take them out and zap them as we want to eat them. I wonder what flavor would be good with diet root beer? vanilla like a root beer float flavored cake...hmmm
Just tried this cake with Dark chocolate cake mix and diet pepsi. I liked the way the batter was so light and puffy, which made it so easy to spoon into the cupcake liners. I made the 24 cupcakes, took 12 cupcakes into the office (all women) it was a big hit and no one could believe it was diet. The cupcakes were a big hit with my husband too.
One upside that has gone unmentioned (though I can't imagine why) is that since there is no raw egg in the batter, it is safe to lick the bowl clean!! :) Yum!.
I'm making Fudge Supreme Brownies (Pillsbury) with Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper. I added too much cola and had to throw in some ground up almonds to add bulk. It's in the oven now, but I'm guessing it will come out as a Black Forest brownie with the cherry flavoring in there.
Can you also add a few pieces of fruit to the mix, as in REAL cherries? I bet that would be yum too w/o adding too many cals.

What is the cal count in this cake? I do not know the w.w. system or how many cals 3 points is equal to.
YES to the fruit question. last night i did pineapple cake w/ diet pineapple soda and put pineapple rings on top. they sunk to the bottom during baking. probably would have been good flipped out to make upside-down cake, but i don't have a big enough platter thingy (i did 9x13). but either way, it was all good.
really curious about how the brownie mix turns out.
