Diet Desserts

Quote  |  Reply

There is so much out there about what to eat dessert-wise while on a diet, but does anyone have any favorites or any that they just can't stand?

Diet jelly is fabulous! Love the flavours and the funky jiggly texture! I could slurp it all day long!

Eat whatever you truly love, just be moderate with your portion sizes. I'm not a fan of diet desserts. If you really don't have room in your day for dessert, try some fresh fruit instead - but don't short-change yourself with sugar-free or low-fat.

Favorite: tart fat free frozen yogurt with strawberries

Least favorite: sugar free jello - yuck!

Favorites:  Sugar-free pudding cups, sugar-free Jell-O, no-sugar-added Fudgsicles, angel food cake (unfrosted), banana, watermelon

Least Favorite:  Hate yogurt of any kind - Eeuuwwww!

Popsicles, sugar free pudding (chocolate, pistachio), frozen fruit mixed with yogurt, ONE homemade cookie (every once and a while), frozen vanilla yogurt.

My current favorite is a baked apple and cinnamon. For breakfast I have oatmeal with a small piece of apple cut up into little pieces mixed in with cinnamon. For dinner I cut up the rest of the apple and bake it with cinnamon in the oven! Throw some raisins in there too. .they get all crispy and blow up HUGE and you get this nice fall smoky taste! Mmmmm.

Another seasonal favorite. . . make a small bowl of oatmeal, add vanilla frozen yogurt on top and a baked apples & cinnamon. You can moderate the calories with portion and can make it anywhere from 100-350 calories. SO yummy and hits the spot in place of pumpkin pie or oatmeal cookies :)

Try homemade apple sauce too! I'm making some this weekend :)

OMG.

Care to elaborate??... ;D

I second the baked fruit ideas, and suggest you try lots of different fruits, bake with spices and then serve either by itself or with some fat free fromage frais.

Also a ryvita with 1tbs PB and about 10 raisins would only be about 140 tops

1/2 cup of grapes and 1 babybel cheese, about 150cals

Light instant hot chocolate are about 50cals

Cup of tea and a good quality biscuit would only be about 100

Cottage cheese and pineapple

2-3 squares dark chocolate

A coffee with vanilla extract and some milk

A fun sized chocolate bar

Glass of ice cold milk

Banana with 1 tbs PB

Bake/microwave a banana with some dark chocolate placed inside

Berries with some squirty cream or melted chocolate

Erm... that's about all I can think of!

I love the berries, I usually put chocolate sauce (NSA Hershey's) on top.  I know that I am behind in the "new products" department, but some friends of mine were going to buy Walden Farms, is it any good?  Is it possible to make your own sorbet nearly calorie free with sucralose in an ice cream maker?

I love Walden Farms salad dressings, but stay farr faarrr away from their chocolate syrup. It tastes like metal, and it hardens when it comes in contact with anything frozen such as ice cream. Not good. Frown

This recipe is pretty good:

I just eliminate the crust (because I don't like it anyway), and sub sugar with stevia =]

Mmm, fruit! And I second baked apples! Or just sautee chopped apple with enough water so as to not burn them, some sweetener of choice (I add about a teaspoon of agave nectar - I'm sure you could use stevia or splenda though), and, of course, LOADS of cinnamon! ^__^ If you're up for a few more calories, toss in some raisins. Mmm, so delish! I've eliminated artificial sweeteners from my diet, which cuts down on many premade diet dessert options, but if you have a good natural-foods type store around you can find some great lowcal and mostly-natural stuff! Another favourite is vegan gummy bears. I'm not a vegan, but love 'em anyways. They come in a little box, and in the box are four 80-calorie bags. Admittedly it isn't a very generous portion, but it's still very satisfying.

cottage cheese + fruit! Delicious! I never knew I would like cottage cheese so much :)

Ever have Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches? They're about 150 calories each and I think fat free, but they are pretty much heaven. I dream about them (really, I had a dream about them a couple of nights ago).
