Ive been calorie counting for ages now, was thinking of switching to slimming world which looks a bit like this
Green days- all veg, fruit, pasta, lentils, rice, quorn and things like very low fat yog, plus 2 healthy extras such as milk, bread, cereal
Red days- all meat fish, fruit veg
you choose which day (that was only a brief overview of the diet), but you can eat unlimited amounts of the fooods
Do you think a diet like this could work? I think its a UK based diet but not entirely cure, but it does involve meetings etc a bit like WW
Hiya, I have tried slimming world, it worked really well at 1st. I managed to loose 2 stone. However, found it really boring and restrictive after a while.
You have to limit yourself to either carbs or protein. I put every last pound back on when I tried to eat 'normally ' again. I know you can eat as much as you like on either day, but I found it unrealistic to stick to. Eating out is hard work also.
You do have limited A or B choices (limited amounts of carbs or proteins on red/green days) It may be good to get going though. I have found cal counting and logging exercise more effective in the long run. I guess whatever works for you is worth a go. Good luck.
part of me is just worried that ill gain on it, as i only have about a stone to lose, i dont know if it'll work? is it possible to follow it but actually gain?
I guess you can 'gain' on any diet or eating plan. I lost on it, just didn't keep it off. I am no expert by far, but its a balance of cals in and cals out. Thats why I think this site is better for managing weight long term. I don't think you can eat as much a you like on either red or green days and still loose.
However, I am at a loss to explain loosing the 2 stone! So, it does work in some way. Can't explain just how though
It may have been keeping a food log every week and being accountable for standing on scales in front of the class. I think this is a big factor in all clubs. Do what you think is best for you. Nothing to loose by trying I guess.
Personally, I think you're better off learning to eat in a healthy sustainable way. If you think this is sustainable for you, have fun.
Otherwise, as soon as you go back to your "normal" eating patterns, you'll go back to your "normal" weight. Kind of defeats the purpose of losing weight in the first place.
My $0.02.

I agree w/Clint. Diets don't work unless you're just trying to loose 10lbs for your high school reunion. You need to find a way to eat that you can do for the rest of your life. And all human beings should eat fruits, veggi's, whole grains, and leguemes reguardless of what eating choices they make.
It just looks like a way to trick you into eating less calories. You'll be so bored with the list of "allowed" foods for the day that you'll undereat. Then when you go off the diet, you'll gain it all back.
Ill probs give it a go, cos theres alot of things you can eat on green days like quorn bolognese, tons of fruit etc, like ill see how it goes, im going to need something to get me through christmas time(this is when i generally put on). If it doesnt work il go back to calorie counting
What is the diet for kidney stones?
