Hi I'm new here (hello everyone!)

I have had problems with my weight since an early age.  I am trying to regain control and have been doing really well and have lost 5lbs so far.

But I have had a terrible couple of days with sugar cravings.  I have this at the same point in my cycle every month.  I get the shakes and all I can think about is sugar and carbs.  I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about keeping my blood sugar steady during this time.  I gave into my sugar craving yesterday which I know only makes the problem worse but I was feeling awful.

Food cravings are pretty normal, getting the shakes is not.

Are you eating enough?
congrats on your 5 lb loss!!!  i've also struggled with being 10-30 pounds overweight since a young age [10 years old, to be exact!]

supposedly taking the supplement Chromium Picolinate will help stabilize blood glucose levels.  i get very crave-y close to my cycle and find that drinking herbal tea with things like raspberry leaf and dong quai help.  also, even more water than usual is very beneficial.  if you still find yourself with these awful cravings, maybe try a little bit of something that's naturally sweet, like fruit or very slightly naturally sweetened cereal.  that might not cause such a severe spike in your blood sugar.

Yeh Im eating loads- just trying to eat healthy choices.  But I have been a sugar junkie for a long time and this is the first time I have cut right down on the sugar.  I have had a full check over at the doctors and am fine other than needing to lose a little weight.
Hey marisol21, I too am a confessed sugar junkie of the worstkind..I can eat my way through sweets like nobodies business. But I have found an alternative that often works...grapes and cherries! Grapes are especially good at satisfying my sweet tooth and are moreish too :) Perhaps try to reach for a handful of grapes next time you get a sugar low?
I have the same problem i find the best thing to do is all ow your self to eat a sweeter fruit instead of the suggar and carbs .. fruit is better most other things i find when it comes to craving sugar. yougart is great as well i find it to be the best filler for those really bad days and the potassium in a  banna might help witht he shakes i get them too sometimes
I usually get a huge craving for sweets, especialy chocolate.  Know what works for me... I starting buying the single serving packages of applesauce (plain & cinnamon) and the 100 calorie packs of sugar free jello pudding.  They come in so many flavors.  They seem to do the trick, and I don't feel so guilty afterwards.
I am a huge sugar junkie, but lately my "white knight" to battle those cravings is a cup of seedless grapes or berries mixed with a tbsp of cool whip (25 calories). The cool whip makes it taste more like a treat than the fruit alone, without killing your calorie count.

Also, I have found that in emergencies a tootsie pop (60 calories) can go a long ways in keeping me from falling completely off the bandwagon. Because it takes awhile to eat, and has the chocolate burst of flavor in the center, it seems to really help.

And remember, this only happens once a month - and only for a couple of days. Don't beat yourself up too badly if you make a mistake, just learn from it and try to get back on track as soon as possible. :0)
