Which diet pill has worked the best for you?

Quote  |  Reply
I don't rely solely on diet pills per se (I use it to give me that nice, extra boost when low calorie dieting) but I have been on quite a few....slimquick, rip fuel, lipo6...and I just opened a box of hydroxycut this morning.

And, yeah...I believe they are all more the same then they are different :)

I notice that my body adjusts to these quite easily and when that happens I usually start a completely different set of pills.

Comments? Suggestions?

Has anyone here been on one type of diet pills and succeeded with their weight loss/fitness goals?

Syndura, the only diet pill that has ever worked for me is Phentermine 37.5 mg.  I buy them on line.

Boy, are you asking for it.  I got SLAMMED on another bulletin board for describing my experience using SLIMQUICK.  I didn't use it for very long - maybe 2 months, but I did find that it gave my metabolism the boost it needed, but most of all I really liked that I did not have the monthly bloating that I usually get from ovulation or period.  It did not make me feel jittery at all, but on the flip side, I didn't feel like I had a ton of extra energy either.

I actually went to a "Fat Doctor"...that's what I call her anyway.  She prescribed Phentermine.  My general practioner had advised me to not be on this medication for more than 6 months because he said there are no long term studies out there yet.  So, I had used the Phentermine, under a doctors care, for 32 weeks (I know a bit longer than my general dr. wanted me on it for) and I lost 35 lbs.  I was taken off the Phentermine in Jan and have maintained my weight since then.  I continue to see the "Fat Doctor" on a monthly basis to be weighed in and for a food counseling session. In talking to her about the succession rate of this medication, she has told me that only 30% of patients who use this Phentermine to lose weight actually maintain their weight loss for a year or more.  She believes it is because many people use the medication to lose weight and do not change their lifestyle while they are on it.  I truly believe that seeing a "Fat Doctor" while on this medication has helped, I have completely changed my diet and have kept to it and have also incorporated a daily activity.  I recently started on CC since I quit smoking...I'm more nervous than ever to gain the weight back, but my "Fat Doctor" has advised me to keep a very detailed journal to maintain my weigh loss.

Hi Susan and khljml,

Your posts really intrigued me! My doctor in London won't even consider medication, but I would love something that would give even a slight kick. Susan, may I ask where you purchase Phentermine online from?

 Thanks!

Phentermine 37.5mg Pills:

90 pills is $329.00
60 is $269.00
30 is $219.00

"Phentermine is used, in combination with diet and exercise,to help you lose weight. It works by decreasing your appetite. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information."

Used in combination with diet and exercise... diet and exercise alone will help you lose weight. I haven't use Phentermine, but yeah it could help you lose a bit faster maybe but for that price I wouldn't buy it. I'll stick to my diet and exercise :p
"It works by decreasing your appetite" -- and this is a good thing? Sounds like a recipe for disaster heading into starvation mode in a hurry.

Furthermore, no offense but "...32 weeks (I know a bit longer than my general dr. wanted me on it for) and I lost 35 lbs...." -- these numbers don't impress me at all, especially if the pill is supposed to aid existing weight loss from diet and exercise. A little over a pound a week? This is easily attainable with just diet and exercise, and in fact many here see nearly double those results.

Do yourself a favor, keep the drugs out, do your exercise and eat around the amount of recommended calories (BMR minus a 500 to 1000 per day deficit) and a 1.5 to 2 lb per week weight loss is actually quite simple.

There was a company many years ago called Starlight. They made some weight loss system chocked full of ephedra and they made me a walking stick figure. Those were the days.

The problem with ephedra is that it increases your chance for a stroke and heart attack by irritating your blood vessels, causing local irritation, and increasing your risk of deadly blood clots; plus it increases the metabolic demand of your heart while constricting your blood flow

i see a lot of thin methamphetamine addicts out there, but i wouldnt want to be one (remember ephedra is the base for psuedoephederine, which is the base for methamphetamine).

All of these 'diet drugs' are little more than stimulants (short of things like Xenical which stops absorbtion of fats).  Remember that they all cause severe side effects (thus why most arent prescribed anymore, or are illegal) and once you come off of them you just rebound.

Dr. Dom

The problem with all those drugs is they suck and they never work long term. NONE of them.
Thanks for your help EVERYONE! I value all of your opinions.

I don't really take diet pills all that seriously...i did want something that just gave me a little kick. However, I am not disregarding ALL OF THEM.

Wow, Phentermine is $$$.

For energy and appetite curbing...i was thinking maybe I should just drink more green tea along with my diet and exercising? Along with all the other benefits of drinking it that is;)

I try to stay away from the pill as much as possible... though I have tried my fair share.  Dexatrim (in it's various formulations) never worked, and Hydroxycut made me feel like I was ADHD... I couldn't concentrate on ANYTHING.

I've just resigned myself to the fact that my body will only lose weight on its terms.  Now, with diet and exercise, I lose about 1 pound every 2 weeks-ish.  It's slow going, but I've lost 15 pounds, and I don't have to feel like I'm pill-popping to get there. Smile

Ephedra was the only thing that worked for me.  SIGH..........  You can still buy ephedra the whole herb which is still legal.  Not as strong or dangerous like the diet pills with the concentrated ephedra, and it gives you nice pick up for exercising.  It's definitely not going to make you lose weight the way the old formulas did though.

I use green tea + caffeine pills for an energy boost.  Works rather well.

I was on ephedra for a little while back when it was legal.  I definitely felt something from it, but I wasn't watching my calories back then, just trying to eat healthy choices, and I didn't see any significant weight loss.  I caught the flu for the second time in a short period, and decided that the ephedra on top of pushing myself very hard at the gym might have been hampering my immune system.

Green tea is a great boost and ditching caffiene always speeds up my weight loss a little.

I have been prescribed sibitrumine as an appetite supressant by my GP and cannot wait until next month when my 12 months is up and I have to stop taking it. It was a great boost and I've lost over three stone since last November but it was hellish- I've been sleepless, anxious and felt incredibly sick all of the time for the first three months. The appetite supressant effects have really decreased over time but I still have sleeping issues and some really bad mood swings. I'm healthier now and glad for taking them but would never do so without close medical supervision- I found out that you can buy these over the counter in the middle east and have been horrified speaking to people who have just taken them as a quick fix as the side effects are numerous and can be very dangerous.

To be honest, last year, or I guess 2 years ago, the Today show did a special on the Brazilian Diet Pill, aka Emagrece Sim, and I tracked some down, which became very, very difficult to do.  I dropped over a grand for about a 6-month supply, and to be honest, they worked quite well.  Except that I had uncomfy bowel movement issues, but generally decreased my appetite, increased my energy and definately made me real thirsty so I drank lots of water.  Now, they are even more difficult to find and much, much more expensive.  And risky, because you don't know what you are getting.

HOWEVER, I have lost more weight eating healthier for 7 weeks than I did for the entire time on those pills.  Because I relied on the pills and didn't change anything about ME.  Not my attitude about food, not my food choices or quantities.

Moral of the story?  Diet pills may help, but the only way to be truly successful is to change your eating habits.  At least, for me.  So why waste the money?
Meridia is working pretty good for me.  I just started a week ago and I have never felt so energetic, also it seems to have curbed my appetite-health insurance doesn't cover it even though it is prescribed by a doctor-a month supply costed me about $130.00

I use stacker 2, but only sporadicly, mainly during fire season, and not for weight loss or as an appetite supressant. I will only use them when I am working on a wildfire, and I know I have to pull a 16 hour shift, get less than 6 hours of sleep, and be back for another 16 hour shift starting at 6:30 am. The stackers help keep me awake and give me enough energy when I don't have the sleep to run on.

I think Alli worked really well for me as well as Slim Quick...

I'm taking birth control pills, Yaz.  It got rid of my hormone-induced psychosis/depression/severe cramps so I could start exercising.  Since it reduced/eradicated  my severe mood swings, I don't have the emotional eating where I get lazy and go to the drive thru or stockpile on chocolate or eat massive portions of Abbondanza!

While I'm kind of tongue-in-cheek about the diet pill topic, I'm absolutely serious about my experience with hormone therapy.  Without the hormone imbalance, all I'd need was to keep exercising and the pounds would melt off.

i never took diet pills (im too young) but i have seen alot of good results in people using hydroxycut hardcore and lipo 6 and its not the ads, its regular people like me and you and bodybuilders. http://bodybuilding.com/store/fatloss.htm
