Diet Pills? Has anyone had any luck?

Quote  |  Reply
I'm trying a diet pill called Zantrex-3. It's pretty much loaded withcaffeine, yerba mate, guarna geen tea, ect... I've noticed that it gives me a stomach ache for an hour or so after I take it. It's not so bad as long as I drink a lot of water. But it gives me sooooo much energy through out the day. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I check out trim spa, but the label scared me when I read that you need to swallow it fast or it might swell up in your throat causing death!

When I was getting my bachelor's degree and working full time, I took Metabalife 2 or 3 times a day. I wasn't taking it to lose weight, but for the energy. I was sleeping maybe 4 hours a night. If it looked like I was going to get more than 4 hours, I would pop a pill and go for a run (didn't have a whole lot of time to exercise). After being on Metabolife for a month, it was at a Self-Defense/Judo class and I collapsed from exhaustion. After that, my boyfriend (now husband) wouldn't let me take them anymore. I started falling asleep in class, but I think my body was trying to tell me something. One of my good friends was also on the same schedule as I was and taking Metabolife. He would take a pill before going to bed, so he wouldn't fall into a deep sleep. If he didn't take the pill, he would sleep through his alarm clock, the phone, all of his classes...

Has anyone has luck with these pills? 2 or 3 pills a day was the recommended dosage for metabalife, but after my experince with them, they just aren't natural.
WOH! I really dont' think diet pills are a good idea! not at all. first of all they have many BAD BAD side affects including: hair loss, msucle loss, bone density loss, stroke, heart attack, and perminent heart damage. I think it's a really bad idea. Half dont' work and the other half coudl kill you. I think it's worth a little more disaplin to avoid the risks.

I won't take anything with caffeine in it. I take Oxe Slim and like it, no side effects. No stimulants.
I don't take anything with caffiene either - it trigger my headaches. However, I do take Pyruvate before my workouts - it supposed to increase your metabolism and endurance. My husband has been taking Xenedrine EFX before his workout - he has more weight to lose than me and his metabolism is slower than molasses.

Good thing you're reading those label - I can't imagine that "may cause swelling in the throat" is a good advertising agent:)
I use to take Zantrex and it is not good for you like most of them. I wouldn't be hungry but when I tried to workout my heart would beat really fast and I would feel like I had to throw up. Just do it the natural way your body will thank you later. It may take more time but it's a lifestyle change. The quick way is just a temporary fix not to mention a risk.

I have been using Trim Spa. (the one with lots of Caffeine). It gives me mega-energy. And I don't need to drink coffee, which is how my stomach begins to hurt. Its pretty good at cutting out cravings. There has been no real result, but I do like the energy.
On the negative side: its a huge horse pill and it is difficult to swallow. Its also expensive.
I take a multivitamin and flaxseed oil for dry skin. I've tried the burners before, and all they did was make me hungry. lol
I think it was metabolife that I tried once and had a bad reaction with it. It made my heart race and made me jittery and irritable so I stopped taking it. Since then I haven't tried anything else because I just don't trust them.
Speaking as someone with a serious caffeine jones (couple pots of coffee a day), I was very pleased to find Green Tea pills.
About the same caff as a cuppa coffee, but it's also antioxidant loaded.
Yah, I know, why take a pill? Why not just drink the tea?
Dunno. coffee doesn't make my stomach ache like tea does.
Anyway, I seem to have a lot more zip and energy than I get from my coffee fix and have been cutting back on my coffee at the same time.

Has anyone tried Slimquick?  I know a few people that have thought about using this.
I don't mean to nag here, this comment is being made out of concern... not preaching.

Diet pills do not work. There is no magic pill.

While you may notice short term weight loss, most of it is due to water loss and muscle loss. The majority of people who go off of diet pills (you can't take them forever...) gain back all the weight they lost, plus more.

If that isn't enough to deter you, just think of all the harmful side effects that have already been mentioned in previous posts...

Please please please do not take diet pills!
I agree with babyd up there---pills are just not the answer.  I'd be a-skeert of 'em!  I did try a "natural" supplement called Diet/Cleanse for a while (made by Nature's Secret), and it just made me visit the restroom more.  Didn't notice any weight loss to speak of.  I can't remember all the ingredients, but there was cascara sagrada and capsicum (fancy word for red pepper) in there.  All supposed to rev the metabolism.  But you know what?  The old-fashioned "eat-less-exercise-more" advice still holds.  No substitutes or shortcuts, alas.  Believe me, if there were, I'd have found 'em!:):)
Exactly!!

If there was a diet pill that REALLY worked, you would hear about it on the news 24/7, it would be outrageously overpriced and constantly out-of-stock.
I use diet pills. I take dexatrim.. I like them.. I have no problems with them..
Lets see....currently I'm combining Zantrex 3, Leptopril, Smart burn and System Lean 7....I only take 1 of each instead of 2. I'm also using cinnamon pills ( helps with insulin control for cravings) cromium also for insulin control- 5 htp at night for seratonin, DHEA I forgot what for....I have a cupboard full....Hoodia (which is also in Smartburn) for cravings...I am noticing a difference in my appetite- I am drinking a lot of water and I know it is probably water weight that I'm losing but they are helping with the motivation to keep eating healthy and to not snack in the evenings. Cause if you don't see the scale move, then at least for myself- I will revert back to my constant eating without thinking- it is really nice to see 2 pounds gone overnight- especially right now when I'm pmsing! I have alot of weight to lose- I've lost 13 in the past month and still have 89 to go!  My friend's mom I was told died from diet pills but still hasn't deterred me. I feel they are helping and since I'm considered obese- which will kill me first? Fat? I feel it is the lesser of two evils. They help me to eat smaller portions and when I don't use them- I notice my appetite is out of control and I eat until I'm just stuffed. Some of the bottles are almost gone and so I probably won't repurchase all of them- I just started the System Lean 7. I do read labels so try not to combine some of the same ingredients.I would also perhaps like to make a commercial for them when I get down to where I want to weigh- perhaps get some money back:).  Granted- they aren't right for everyone but I find they help control my appetite- I wouldn't take them if they made me nauseous though- I also take Fiber Choice twice daily. They just help with energy and to eat right- I have no problems sleeping at night either or waking up in the am's- I don't use an alaram but wake up naturally at 6:30am. :) I'll even be 40 in 22 days...
oh my....speechless...
Where is Christin's or slappy when you need em??  I can't form words, much less type them after that post from jen32966. I am so very concerned.
Jen,

Does your doctor (or at least your pharmacist) know about all that you are taking?  What about a family member.

Not to sound paranoid, but if something happened to you - with all those chemicals in your system I don't know how they'd be able to treat you for an emergency.

Do you think you need the pills for habit control?  Redirecting your tendency to build habits from food to the process of taking a pill?  Perhaps you could just take the fiber and a multivitamin?

Please be careful!
Holy %()#*%( !  Jen honey...you need to be careful...I have taken diet pills before but you can really whack yourself out!  I know of one that really worked for me but you can't take them forever...bottom line...what works is diet and exercise!!!!!  Please consult a Dr or pharmacist...
Jen -

I'm not a doctor or a registered dietician... I only have a certification in nutrition and wellness, so you can take this advice for what it's worth.

Have you considered asking your doctor about recommending a diet pill for you? If not, I would at least make an appointment and tell him about all the pills you are taking right now. I'm not saying that I can prove they are all hazardous to your health, but judging from everything I have heard and read about them, they are definately not something I would ever recommend to anyone.

I realize that the battle to lose weight can be frustrating at times, but the goal shouldn't be just to diet and lose a bunch of excess weight, it should be to change your entire lifestyle - change it so that eating healthy foods and exercising become something that you do not do  because you feel obligated to do it, or have been told to do it, but something you yourself WANT to do. It should be intrinsic. The weight loss should just be an added benefit.

I'm not saying that you'll wake up tomorrow and all of a sudden have a desire to run 5 miles, but it will happen over time if you take small steps. Start by making a list of small goals for yourself, then check them off as you complete them. E.g. "I will drink 8 glasses of water today". It's good to see your accomplishments add up. The results will come too. It might seem like all your hard work is going to waste at times because the number on the scale stays the same, but there are changes occurring that are not visible... i.e. you're becoming more healthy.

Sorry for the long post. Jen if you take one thing away from what I wrote, let it be the suggestion that you at least go speak with your doctor. That's all.
