diet pills and crohn's disease

Quote  |  Reply
If there's anyone out there who has Crohn's disease and knows anything about how your body reacts with diet pills please give me some info. I lost a huge amount of weight over the summer and became underweight because of a 3 month hospital stay due to a flare up. But when I was able to eat again I gained all the weight back and then some. I want to get to a comfortable weight but it's hard for me to eat a lot of veggies because I can't digest them unless they are cooked to mush. yuck. Oddly, carbs seem to be the only thing I don't have trouble digesting as well as meat. I'd like to try a diet aid but am afraid it will make me sick and throw me into a flare again. Any advice?

my mom has crohn's and she eats cooked vegetables, lean protein and whole grains. she is pretty small.

i wouldn't try diet pills though and risk a flare up.

Holy - three months?! Geez, you must have had some flare! I hope you're feeling better now.

I wouldn't risk diet pills. Anything that changes your system can trigger an immune response which, as you know, is what causes a flare.

The problem with veggies is common. All you can do is peel them, cook them well, and find out what individual types are ok for you and take a good vitamin supplement. I live off fats and carbs when I'm sick, especially fatty carbs (potato chips, pastries, etc).

thanks for the input. and thanks for the thread. you're probably right about the diet pills. this hospital stay was pretty long. it was a bad flare and i actually had a perforated bowel so that's why i was in there so long. plus i had two surgeries within a month. i think i'm gonna try vitamin shots and talk to my doc about some safe diet plans.
If your doctor share a safe diet plan, please share.  As you know from the other post Carocoho, I have Crohn's as well.  I was taking greentea pills and wound up with a flare up.  I didn't put 2+2 together until this post, so maybe they had somthing to do with it.  I want to talk to my doctor about the Alli.  It is FDA approved.  I figured I would read the box and see what they say about digestive or bowel irritations.
Echinacea (sp?) is not for us, either! Anyone with an autoimmune disorder should not take it.

Echinacea, I have heard of that.  Is that in diet pills?  I thought it was good for you.
