Diet Pills??

Quote  |  Reply
Ok I would really like to know if anyone here has tried diet pills, if so do they really work or not? I know you need to exercise and eat right but do the pills help speed up the losing weight process?

When I was in college I took Stacker 2....the famed wrestling energizer.  I lost 40 lbs.  I would try something along the natural herbs so you don't kill your body.  Alli is the only FDA approved weight loss system...kind of spendy but its nice it is FDA approved.  The Hoodia is all the rave right now, just make sure you read up first.
when i get paid next week i plan to buy some herbal slimming aids to see what effect they have.

I have been taking something with Green Tea in it and for the last couple of days i have been coming in under my calories and not really being hungry.  it was buy one get one free so i thought i would try it for a couple months and see if it did anything.
One of my friends took something a while back (it's off the market now but was very popular at the time).  It made her feel like she was about to have a heart attack or pass out because her heart was beating so fast.  Moral of the story: Watch what you put in your body and do some research before just taking pills.
Over the counter diet pills have a lot of hype and majority of them do not work and are a waste of your money. Diet pills are not a substitute for exercise and eating healthy. I use diet pills as an aide only to my normal routine of a lot of exercise and eating healthier but not 100% cutting out some simple pleasures in life. I believe that exercise is the first thing you need to incorporate into your life in order to lose weight, then cutting calories along with eating healthier. You may not even need diet pills after that.

With that said I am currently taking Alli but started out with the prescription form of called Xenical and I also take Phentermine to help curb my appetite and give me more energy. Both of these pills are strictly monitored by my doctor so that he knows if they are harming my body or giving me abnormal symptoms. I would recommend before taking Alli that you read about the side effects because they really do happen and you either have to control things to avoid them from happening or you have to just get use to them. The side effects about wet stools and uncontrollable bowel movements after eating a really fattening meal or overeating really do happen but I have gotten use to it and never had an accident. The only reason I take Alli is because I do enjoy a piece of pizza now and then or something off of my food plan so it helps with not adding some of the extra fat. Phentermine does increase your blood pressure as well as your heart rate so you should only be very healthy when taking it as well as have a doctor monitor you. I take it to help me not to eat between meals or over eat when I have cravings or those days 3 meals and a 2 snacks are just not enough. Phentermine can make you very jittery like you have had a 6 pack of Red Bull in one sitting. Again something I have gotten use to. I was on both of these pills before I started exercising every day and yes I did lose a little weight but really started to drop the pounds when I started exercising just about every day. Therefore I believe that pills are not a substitute for exercise and eating healthy (burning more calories than you consume) but can be an aide instead. Pills also do not help with losing weight faster either.

I would check with your doctor before starting any diet pills even over the counter ones because they can have an counter effect on other drugs you are taking or not be good for you if you are not in good health.
my doctor put me on adipex years ago, and wham!! 20 pounds gone in month.... although it included severe cotton mouth and contant peeing.   He told me it was a legal form of speed. wont be doing that one again!  LOL

OK I outlined my day to say this, I do take a diet pill but NOT for the weight loss claim I take for the extra boost of energy so that I will even feel like exercising when I get time.

I know that my diet of "clean" foods and exercise will be the reason I lose the weight but the extra energy boost is needed on some days.

Well,I have worked at a supplement store for several years. We've sold hundreds of bottles of diet pills/weight loss supplements. Some work (in my opinion) and others do not.The basic concept of these "fat burners" is to produce a thermogenic effect.(They try to increase your body temperature)Your bodies natural response is suppose to be to regulate its temperature back down to what it considers normal. The bodyburns fat and calories to do so.Fat burners and weight loss supplements tend to combine caffeine, diuretics, and herbs that can cause a number of problems for certain people. If you are considering taking a fat burner/weight loss supplement, talk to your doctor first. At the moment,I have received the most positive feedback on alli and the hydroxycut line.

Maybe but here is the thing about alli this is from Fatburner.net and having tried Alli I can honestly say it's TRUE you find a bathroom and stay there.

If you want the truth, as tens of thousands of Alli users can attest to, a better phrase would be that the fats simply “leak from your body”. No joke. Fatty, Oily, Smelly anal seepage / leakage.

The side effects of Alli are:

  • Gas with oily spotting
  • Loose stools
  • More frequent stools that may be hard to control

After I read up on customer reviews and spoke with friends who have taken Alli, I went back and read through their site. It is absolutely hilarious when you realize that all of these quotes center around the fact that you will have uncontrollable oily anal seepage:

* “pick a day to begin taking alli, such as a weekend day so you can stay close to home if you experience a treatment effect.” ie lock yourself in your bathroom and don’t come out

* “until you have a sense of any treatment effects, it’s probably a smart idea to wear dark pants, and bring a change of clothes with you to work.” I can’t comment further on this one.

* “You may not usually get gassy, but it’s a possibility when you take Alli. The bathroom is really the best place to go when that happens.” ie. Grumbly in the Tummy = Full sprint to the bathroom!

This might sound crazy, but the FDA is a joke, i dont trust anything they say. And if there were some magical pill to lose fat dont you think obesity would be cured and noone would be overweight by now. They are all just one big waste of money. Don't get fooled by all the advertising these days. They know what people want to hear. Just because it's natural/herbal/organic or whatever they tell you, doesnt mean it works or is healthy.

The only only exceptions are a few subsatnces that have been banned, but even so, most only have a minimal effect.

As someone in the business (form the regulatory side), I'd say use some common sense. If any of the stuff on the dietary supplements market has an effect beyond placebo WITHOUT CAUSING HARM, don't you think Big Pharma would be making big money on them? Alli requires a low-fat diet to reduce side-effects but it's WAY low-fat (and very tough to get there). If you need a pick-me-up, try coffee or an apple. Placebos work too: convince yourself that that green tea really is an appetite suppressant and it may be!  Sorry to be cynical, but best changes comes from within: not better living through chemistry. Save your money.

I've been taking phentermine since October, but haven't really been able to lose any weight.  I've lost about 10 pounds.  The phentermine makes me feel sick (I tend to eat to relieve a sick feeling) and makes it impossbile to exercise.  If I try just walking up a hill, my heart beats out of my chest and I nearly pass out.  Everyone around me loses tons of weight on it though.  My sister lost 30lbs in 2 months and my boss lost 20lbs in a month.  I guess it made it so they basically ate nothing at all.  I wouldn't recommend taking ANY diet pills.  I've been working out a LOT and have noticed so much better results and most importantly I feel so great and energized and don't have that horrible sick feeling anymore.

I just wanted to note that just because something is herbal, doesn't mean its safe. Herbal supplements cause fulminant hepatic failure more often than you might think. We had a case study for class not too long ago about a woman who was taking herbal diet pills and lost her liver because of it.

IMHO, you're better off not trying to take any shortcuts. You will be much healthier if you can lose weight through diet and exercise.

If you plan to take diet pills, then do you plan on taking those pills for the rest of your life? If you stop taking the diet pills, you are likely to go back to your regular eating habits and you will gain the weight back. Small, progressive dietary improvements and exercise is the best way.

They did have a very successful diet pill years ago that worked for everyone who took it. Oh, wait, oops! Those were the pills that had tapeworm eggs in them.. :)

I understand what you are saying about diet pills but like I said I only take mine for an extra energy boost.

I have made clean eating a life style not just a diet so yes I will continue to eat this way.

And I DO NOT in any way recommed alli to anyone, shoot I wouldn't even feed it to my ex-hubby and I want him to suffer.
