Diet pop slowing down weight loss?

Quote  |  Reply
Someone at work told me that pop, including diet pop can slow weight loss significantly.

Has anyone else heard of this?

I can't quite figure out how to delete this, but I was trying to post it under the "Foods" topic......
moved it for you :)

This is true.  There are a ba-zillion articles here on CC and on the web regarding the effects of aspartame, the sweetener used in diet soda.

I'm not much of a pop drinker but my daughter is addicted to diet Dew and has been for several years.  She cut back to 16 ounces a day and lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks without changing anything else in her diet.  Granted she is about 50 lbs overweight but I'm pretty sure it has convinced her that her weight has a lot to do with the Diet Dew.

What about splenda? Does it have the same effects?

I always get the sugar-free frozen yogurt at yogen fruz. It's 108cals per bar.

Also, I drink diet iced teas and diet sodas... almost every day. I have been losing weight consistently still.  But maybe it would come off faster if I stopped drinking diet sodas and switched to real juice and water??

WELL I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE SAME... BUT NOW I AM SEEING THE DIFFERENCE... I HAVE STOPPED DRINKING SODA ALLTOGETHER I HAD ALWAYS DRANK THE REAL SODA BUT I STOPPED 4 WKS AGO AND HAVE STARTED DROPPING 2-3 LBS A WEEK CHANGING NOTHING ELSE IN MY DIET AND EXERCISE.. TRY IT U WILL FEEL SO MUCH BETTER AND YOUR SKIN WILL FEEL SO GOOD!!!

I don't know much about any scientific evidence of diet coke and weight gain/loss, but I do know that I don't crave sweets as much now that I'm not drinking diet sodas.  I stopped drinking diet coke and caffiene altogether about 2 weeks ago.  I now hardly ever get cravings for sweets.  It could be for other reasons, but I'm blaming it on the diet coke ;-)

Also, I've started noticing that my "naturally" thin friends drink real soft drinks...  They generally don't drink coke a lot, but when they do, it's the non-diet kind...

Pumpkin, real juice has calories and doesn't fill you up as much as fruit or other foods would for the same number of calories, so it isn't really good for loosing weight.  If you add juice to your diet, you should make sure it doesn't put you over your total calorie limit for the day.  Water is very good though!
Man not the diet coke I just finally got myself to halfway enjoy like I did the reg stuff...plz dont tell me that : ( it's cherry!!boo hoo....
