What diet do you recommend for gallstones?

All the websites I have visited have said I need to eat 6 small meals a day as I have been eating fairly large ones all my life. I'm not sure what to do.
Answer
A low fat diet is used for gallstones because dietary fat is the principle cause of gallbladder contraction. For non-acute gallbladder problems, the maintenance diet contains no more than 50 grams of fat a day. The low fat diet omits naturally high fat foods, like bacon, sausage and cream sauces, as well as high-fat cooking methods such as frying. Otherwise, the diet should be balanced without excessive calories and spread into small meals to avoiding over-taxing the system. High-fiber, low glycemic index foods are usually well tolerated.
