is Diet Soda bad for you?
I have been drinking a lot of diet soda lately.. it makes me feel full throughtout the day.. but it is bad while losing weight?
It's true that this study is way too confounded with other variables to mean much.
However, I read a similar study in rats that was an actual experiement. They gave some rats real soda and some diet, those with diet gained more weight. Granted, they're rats, they give large amounts relative to their size, etc.
There are also studies in which some people are given cookies with low sugar (and fake sugar), and others given full sugar. The people are not told which they are given, and they found those given the artificial sugar cookies ate as much, and sometimes more, calories that day.
There are two theories:
1.For the second study: You can't actually fool your body. If you give it something that tastes like calories but isn't, you'll probably make them up elsewhere (for the non-dieting/counting of course)
2. For the first study: Your body can become accustomed to eating/drinking things that taste sweet but contain no sugar. So you're body gets used to not doing much when you have something sweet. Then when you eat something that IS sweet, your body is slow to burn it off, metabolize it.
3. Your taste buds never un-acclimate to sweet things, which means you still crave sugar like crazy.
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
